Great post earlier Steeleye - we don't normally agree but I am with you on this.
City Bankers probably are overpaid but so are footballers - it is called market forces in a free enterprise.
Also - without their taxes we would be stuffed - always assuming that they pay them of course!
Railway, bus, tube workers - they provide a public service and whilst life might not be fair they are earning good money compared to the average person and they should absolutely bot strike.
The Unions are currently in cahoots with the powerful Remainers and will do everything they can to F*** Boris and co.
We should all be fearful of a group of people who are more interested in this than the Country albeit I accept you could say that about most politicians.
Starmer and co supporting the Unions here may well lead them to lose the upcoming bi-elections - let's hope so anyway.
Back on point - fair rights for everyone as always but you can't have it both ways - sign up to a proper 21st century working contract or lose your job on the spot!

Well I guess train drivers do press the correct buttons, but the Bank of England definitely not a recession likely now and they are largely to blame.

Rail workers sprinting for redundancy how unsurprising.

Working PAYE myself and having ‘colleagues’ who shall we say aren’t necessarily the best, to be polite; it isn’t easy to sack people. There are loads of no win no fee lawyers just waiting to get a payout for someone. Times have changed so unions are good to a point but we are too far down the employee law route to suddenly become a firing and hiring environment. As badger said self employed or cantractor no work no pay. If the money is better there is a reason!

I understand employment law rules as I fell foul many years ago.
You can do what you want but it is costly and I know that it wouldn't work - I am being somewhat ideological!

doling out free money and houses to the lazy, feckless, idle and stupid.

And the long-term effect is not to alleviate poverty but to create the next generation of losers.

Welcome to the Left

It is not optional in many jobs, as far as I know. You are right that it does suit many people, particularly those with caring responsibilities. My sons job is zero hour contract, he had no choice. As it is assisting with events, there is not work for him all the time. When there is he can choose how much or how little he works. As he is a registered cater this suits him at the present time. At least he earns above minimum wage

Is the right answer!

I was just thinking earlier, about the state of the country and the mess we are in for many years to come, maybe forever! I thought if Corbyn had won the election- and led us to this exact scenario- it couldn"t be worse before someone gets that in, I would hold my hands up and say I am never voting left again! Perhaps never voting again, but I would hold my hands up and say what the fcuk is going on, and he totally fcuked up the country! Suprising, but lots on here don"t do the same for bungle, theres always an excuse, a reason, someone elses fault, or the pandemic, something the whole world has faced but not all fared as badly as us after!

That's quite a way from tube drivers who will earn £1m in 16 years striking for more money.

I think it's becoming a common thing.

Whether it be local or general elections I have abstained a plenty as I will refuse to vote for a party unless I feel motivated to - whether that be an alignment to their politics and plans or to stop what I would consider a disaster. IMHO it would be best for people to stop voting out of sheer ignorance, which is probably the majority, as we then might evaluate our political system.

Labour - Conservative - Labour - Conservative - Labour - Con..etc

You'd think we'd of worked something else out by now. They're all so similar in my opinion that there's barely a piece of paper between them. Yet people remain staunchly aligned to parties who remain broadly in the middle lane with only the slightest deviations usually to suit a handful or individual's benefit.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!
