To be fair, Liverpool do have history.....Andy Carroll £35m ! But a player is only worth as much as the buying club is prepared to pay. I think asking them to accept a 10% discount on the price they paid for his perceived ' failure ' at Liverpool is realistic.

Bingo. This is why I'm happy for Palace to splash the cash.

It would make a nice change to have a manager know his best XI for the first game of the season rather than scrabbling about in the last two days of the window.

For sure its a shed load of money but if that's the way things are then so be it, I am in no way downbeat about the deals being done by the club / management.

He was great at Villa, didn't get much game time at Liverpool. I have every reason to believe he's still a good player. A diving f*cking cheat but the moment he scores his first Palace goal I'll forget all about that. Unless he's 30 games in before it happens...

Certainly LFC fans want to see the back of him. As to all these transfers there is a risk a club overpays if it does it's business early rather than at the end of the window when teams have a settled team after 2/3 games and know who they will and can dispose of. Palace could well have sat tight and attempted to wait until the end of the window and pushed a hard bargain, but LFC know there is still basically 8 weeks to go until the window shuts. Its a catch 22 situation in that LFC will want the funds to invest on new players...CPFC want the player in pre-season training....the player will want some security...who flinches first? I am so pro this deal happening and think it is huge for us. This guy gets goals wherever he has been and he scored at LFC with very little first team action. Having him for those 2/3 games in August may be the difference of finishing 10th or 6th which next year is about £2m a place....so overall this becomes an educated gamble on going for it at £30m and securing more prize money or bargaining and ending up with a player later on in the window and costing that prize money.
