Willo, Hammond etc being missing hit home this week as did seeing May repeat hollow slogans. There wasn't anything like Cameron rolling his sleeves up with ''I am pumped up.'' It might be void of much positive direction but it shows passion and its rallying people. She hasn't proposed anything I can think of apart from the care tax which has caused her core vote to probably not vote. East Surrey was quiet during the day btw.

I am a dyed-in-the wool Tory, a party member and I campaigned in this election. To be honest,I feel the whole Tory campaign was a huge disappointment and of course questions need to be asked of those concerned. What was the data they were working on in terms of 'Target Seats', poll ratings etc ? Were we targetting the right seats ? Nationally through the media the campaign was lacklustre - where were all the 'Big Hitters' in prominence on the TV ? Sole concentration was Theresa May and she never seemed that comfortable and not a 'Natural' in these situations like say David Cameron ? There was also the issue of the so called "U-Turns" since her leadership which made her look weak and wobbly. Lots of issues ! Corbyn got away with it due to the sheer lack of challenges to his pie-in-the-sky promises and fantasy economics which the electorate in many cases fell for due to the inept Tory campaign. My goodness, £48 Billion expenditure, contributed to by just 5% of the population and swingeing increases in 'Corporation Taxes' hitting businesses which provide the wealth and jobs !!!! The way Labour are going about things today you would think they had actually won the election when they will be @ 60 seats behind the Conservatives so they are not the largest party !!! And they talk gibberish about forming a minority Government !!!! It is going to be very difficult for the PM and today Britain are the losers due to the sheer uncertainty of the political scene. I'm being totally honest - NOT a good Conservative campaign and NOT a good night for us, but by golly the electorate have been conned by promises Labour could never deliver. That's all I will say - I try and stay clear of political discussions on here for reasons I have explained. Edited by Willo (09 Jun 2017 9.36am) Why in your opinion do you think she called this election. Was it to be strong and stable or do you feel a little bit of arrogance was in attendance and she believed she could win with a landslide and write her own place in History?

the word of today is hubris Not really just that. Lack of ideas and ability to debate with those who have has played a major major part. She didn't show up to debate because she knew she'd lose, not because she was confident, arrogant etc. She's a joke tbh. She had that speech on the steps of Downing Street about JAMS and minorities etc and then mentions nothing of it yet her opposition does and sweeps up loads of votes. No policies and nothing to debate. Just slogans. Probably good day to day and cherry picking policies but having a plan and a vision and direction. Not a facking chance. Just talk and saying what people want to hear at the time.

Oh the irony I have ever discussed in any great depth here my political leanings or how I voted in the referendum. But it's a democracy. That's what everyone shouted from the rooftops last June. Good for them if that's what they want. They are the ones who will have to live it come good or bad. The youth were villified in the wake of brexit and told they were basically stupid, knew f*** all about life and had to suck it up as we were leaving. Now the pendulum has swung the other way. So old folk, suck it up and stop being little snowflakes. Teresa may saying she wouldn't call an election and then calling one harmed her immeasurably. It played straight to the stereotype that politicians say one thing and do another. There was also the 'Charge' that she called the election for party political gain which I don't believe but this was the perception.I genuinely believe she called it to strengthen her hand in complex 'Brexit' negotiations. There was also this charge of U-Turn on this issue, also the problems with having to back track on NI in the 'Budget' etc etc so it didn't show her or her Government on a good light. I am being totally honest about my party and NOT glossing over anything.Disappointing result for us and serious questions need to be asked as to what went badly wrong, which it did. Tories and the DUP together pass that threshold but still pretty much unworkable in the short and long term. Wouldn't it be funny if sinn fein turned up at parliament to back Corbyn. Won't happen though.

It's a sad day for Britain. It's obvious to me that the young have turned out to vote and the are idealistic, naive and have been duped by a charlatan. All that said, the Conservative campaign was a shambles.

I think what has been her greatest asset in the past was her greatest weakness now, "Submarine May" She used to duck under whenever trouble hit, been away from it and then re-appear at the end without having taken too much collateral damage. When you are the leader you can't do that. You make it about I, I, I and Me, Me, Me then you have to front it up. Some people are competent but they don't have charisma. Some are charismatic without being competent. She has gone across as weak, arrogant, dogmatic, passive aggressive and anything but the safe pair of hands she wanted to be portrayed as. She tried to come across as Maggie Thatcher, but didn't have the bollocks to take the criticism when it came her way - hence the Submarine. All the while alienating her core vote by assuming their unwavering loyalty. Edited by robdave2k (09 Jun 2017 9.59am)

People will now spend the next few weeks downplaying the success of Labour in this election. 72% youth turnout!!!! Fact is in this election, Labour did the worst in Scotland where we ran a Blairite campaign, and a little worse in Wales where we left Corbyn out the picture. Far from being an electoral liability, Corbyn has proved to be a major asset, and has now pulled off one of the biggest political upsets in history in this country. Wowowow.
If punk ever happened I'd be preaching the law, instead of listenin to Lydon lecture BBC4 |

Conservative campaign was very disappointing as was the manifesto. Questions need to be asked on both scores.

I honesty believe that she called the election for the reasons she gave.No doubt, Labour, as predicted said it was for party political gain but I don't believe this was the case. She really wanted strong support for her 'Brexit' negotations. The rest as they say is history. This is my honest opinion - I'm NOT just saying this in support of Theresa May.
