1992? Labour have more than 30 more seats and Tories won a majority. That was also worse. The other 3 elections Labour won so it's hardly surprising this isn't as good. The truth is that this is about as good a result as Labour could have realistically expected. It makes Tories much weaker and much less electable next time. Lots of much closer Tory marginals now which they could very well lose in a possible autumn election. 1992 - 271 Seats The other 3 elections labour won, which shows there are people out there that are willing to vote for Labour, just not for Corbyn. He's failed to capitalise against a government that's been so bad we've left the EU and screwed the NHS. 2 seats better than Gordon Brown who oversaw the banking crisis and the Iraq war and called a old lady a bigot during his campaign. If BoJo wasn't stabbed in the back after the referendum he was likely to be PM, and a much stronger one than May. The referendum was lost in Labour heartlands, this elelection should have been Labour's for the taking and all they have managed to do is climb off rock bottom. Corbyn is now stronger than ever, but can you think of another Labour/Tory politician that's failed to win an election and not resigned? Perhaps the Corbyn supporters can team up with Caroline Lucas and have a second place parade down on Brighton seafront.

How does Sinn Fein winning seven seats in Northern Ireland affect the required seats for a majority? I understand that SF does not take their seats, thus reducing the number of MPs. Do the Math....ssssss. 650 MPs. but SF don't vote so though officially 326 needed for majority if you minus those 7 SF seats you get 643 so 322 will do the job just. Tories and the DUP together pass that threshold but still pretty much unworkable in the short and long term.

You can spin it all you want but the fact is Corbyn and the voting public have delivered a bloody nose, perhaps a fatal wound, to May and this could just be the start. If there is another election less people will be wary of voting for Corbyn and more will be wary of voting for May/New leader of the Tories. This from a fella who was 15 points behind in the polls seven weeks ago, has the right-wing press ganged up against in and disdain from his own old Blairite MPs. The lad done very well indeed.

Not all bad news - Nick Clegg, Angus Robertson, Alex Salmond all out. And the communist-lite party will not form the government.
We have now sunk to a depth at which the restatement of the obvious is the first duty of intelligent men. [Orwell] |

What a manic 12 months. Firstly well done to Corbyn for putting up a great fight and the best campaign between the major parties. Unfortunately though this is not a victory for Labour, they can't form a government and those that think Sinn Fein will take their seats, won't. They don't swear allegiance to the queen. A victory for Labour was a few more seats so they could enter a coalition with the Lib Dems, Greens and SNP. DUP want a soft brexit, and including them in Brexit talks will only be a good thing imo. So glad to see the SNP do badly. And lets just hope the Tories don't vote Boris as the next PM. Edited by Hansy (09 Jun 2017 7.58am)

Arrogance lost. May called the election 'knowing' she was a shoe-in and then inexplicably conducted a disastrous campaign and dodged all the debates. Sturgeon did the same in Scotland, assuming she was certain to win, and using it to say it was vote to push for independence (again) apparently not realising that the Scots don't want to do it all again. Well, in both your faces! Treat the public with disdain, and they'll kick you in the space where your b0llocks would be if you weren't both girlies!

National insanity. I was completely wrong and I am humbled on that score. Enough voted for the politics of serial thriller.....they literally just fecked Brexit. Anyone who voted Corbyn is responsible for what comes next. The EU will be celebrating over this for sure. Nothing to be done over extremists here now for sure.....This country is truly fecked. Hopefully that's the end of their referendum and they can now go back to running their own country instead of trying to f*** someone else's up.

Those who voted Corbyn are responsible for the mess to come....any shifting of responsibility is purely bluster.
