We'll see my man. If you're correct I'll certainly tip my hat. If Trump went for the military coup he'd need to have more support than he has. I know he did move some loyalists into positions after the election but I don't know if he has enough support along the chain of military command to make it happen. I think if a coup was realistic it would have happened by now. All I've seen Trump do is concede and call his own supporters terrorists who are going to be persecuted. I don't want a Biden presidency, I think it's going to be very bad for America and for the west generally....but I guess we'll have to watch what unfolds.

I’ll definitely have some of what you’re having. Probably slightly less of it though.

Essentially I see this playing over years, not weeks or months as a slow fragmentation....but the left are going in so hard on Trump that I honestly think the immediate future and reactions are uncertain. Edited by Stirlingsays (10 Jan 2021 9.27pm) You earlier let slip that Trump wields physical force through his supporters - and doesn't need the military. Which beyond the 'can't do him for it' veneer is confirmation that he holds some sway and responsibility for what happened on Capitol Hill. A deadly act of domestic terrorism. But somehow that counts for nothing, and it's the 'left' who you believe are encouraging further acts of violence by politically 'going in so hard' on Trump. This shouldn't need to be explained, but no legal repercussion or private business action is any way a justification for acts of terror. You repeatedly and enthusiastically state that it's a 'bad idea' to politically or legally go after Trump because of the potential consequences. Policy and law shouldn't be based around what is acceptable to terrorists.

That's frankly nonsense. What I said is that if Trump went for a civilian uprising that it could be fifty fifty as the military wouldn't fire on crowds. I didn't say that's how you carry out a military coup as the president of the United States.....as should be obvious to anyone serious a coup is advanced by mass arrests and military takeovers of important multiple control infrastructure at once.....Not a crowd of flag wavers led by a viking at the capitol building.....saying Trump intended that is absurd. A civilian uprising is what those out of power try. Originally posted by BlueJay

The Democrats were happy to stand down laws to allow their activists to burn cities for months so I'm afraid Wordy that 'policy and law' are whatever the powerful want it to be.....because it's all about interpretation. The Democrats and their supporters will do whatever they wish to do.....the consequences of it will be what it is and no one will take responsibility for it as that's the way of the world. I've given you my perspective ahead of time....you sit on your fence and snipe at me.... as you have always done.

The 538 website was referenced here yesterday in support of the idea that Trump's popularity in the USA has slipped since the events last Wednesday. By chance another forum I use posted a link to a different 538 piece, published on the 7th, which is shown below. 538 are not political. They collate research and publish some very interesting. objective and thought-provoking information. The editor, Nate Silver, has an enviable reputation having won many awards and who has the respect of those in both major parties. What they publish deserves to be taken seriously. Scroll past the video and read the article:- Edited by Wisbech Eagle (10 Jan 2021 11.57pm)
For the avoidance of doubt any comments in response to a previous post are directed to its ideas and not at any, or all, posters personally. |

Scroll past the video and read the article:- Edited by Wisbech Eagle (10 Jan 2021 11.57pm) To see how popular Trump is currently, since Nov 5th indeed, I refer you to the upset wins of Warnock and Ossoff. That number took a nose dive after he incited an insurrection resulting in the deaths of 5 people, including law enforcement. Law and order president? Normal people are sick and tired of the bulls*** noise of Trump's presidency. I say seriously and stoically to any Trump supporter: Now is the time to repent and seek forgiveness for blindly supporting the most dangerous, deranged, dishonest and outright sociopathic president in history. It gives me no pleasure to say that I told you so, but a man such as Trump being president could only lead to one conclusion, something akin to the horrific scenes that we saw. This goes beyond the polarization of the left vs the right in this country or over there. This is a dangerous and delusional madman who no longer lives in the world of remote reality. If that mob had gotten their hands on Mike Pence, Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer or Mitt Romney there would have been more murders. When you whip a bunch of radical right halfwits into a "patriot" frenzy this is what you get. Its all a game to Trump, its all a real estate deal. Gretchen Whitmer would be dead now if it wasnt for law enforcement, down to Trump. He has coddled and courted white supremacists and radical right wing nuts since Steve Bannon and Stephen Miller told him he needed them. Without his social media he will slide into the shadows soon enough. If Trump doesnt end up in jail, its down to the calmness and concept of the greater good inside president elect Joe Biden's head.
Trump lost. Badly. Hahahahahahaha. |

Edited by Stirlingsays (10 Jan 2021 11.46pm) I was referring to your comments where you said "I would think he would have been a bit concerned for the security he knew there but also initially pleased at the power he has. He has genuine power that doesn't require orders to military. "
In the direct aftermath of this, acting like it's in fact those who politically or legally 'go after' Trump that should be the ones watching their behaviour in is a nod to the types who have just wrecked havoc. Terrorists. Cop killers. Sort your head out. Quote I've given you my perspective ahead of time....you sit on your fence and snipe at me.... as you have always done.
What any of us think isn't really going to change anything. I seriously doubt that there will be a civil war during next four years though. I do however have concerns that the inauguration and elected political representatives may more readily become targets of domestic terrorists. Those storming Capitol Hill, or burning down inner cities appear to see all of this as 'power to the people'. Attacking politicians though would likely soon lead to consequences and legislation that would impact everyone by magnitudes more than anything that had come before it, and dwarf any imagined upside. Hence why I feel that ideas, which I have stated (no fence!) that are proven elsewhere and more aligned with at least a degree of common cause rather than what we currently have (its exact opposite) are useful discussion points and possible realities. You might not agree, but that's primarily because your wayward politics appears geared towards envisioning a much more chaotic future, to the point where from your reactions to events I question whether you'd even be unhappy with that. Who knows maybe you'll be right, but if so it'll be more a case of self fulfilling prophecy than absolute inevitability.
