I make Sauerkraut and my wife makes Kimchi. Actually quite different processes although the result isn't that different. We ought to be OK then!

The whole situation is one big damned if you do, damned if you don't. The government could've acted sooner to try to manage South Korea type numbers, but that would've been seen at the time as an overreaction. As of now, they could extend the lockdown if numbers rise, but that will be tremendously damaging to the economy. They could say, "we've now got additional capacity" and try to blast through the inevitable spikes, but the numbers would be hard to turn a blind eye to if capacity is exceeded. Even if they find a perfect balance, very significant numbers of over 65s simply aren't going to be seen for dust for the next 6-12 months and who can blame them, so that's another nail in the coffin of a lot of businesses. The bottom line is that there is no magic way out of this that is going to be the perfect threading of a needle. A lot of damage will occur in one way or another regardless of what choices are made due to the nature of what we're dealing with. Essentially we need to suck that reality up and accept that and primarily be community minded rather than imagine there is an obvious path through this that we know with certainty ticks the right boxes.

Starmer said Boris should stop treating us like children when he wasn’t releasing a plan out of lockdown. Now people are being treated like adults that’s a problem. Surprised to hear Ed Balls being so understanding to the government’s predicament. Possibly because he’s an economist.

I did say that yes and as you can read it clearly has been removed. I'm not offended BTW so no problem with the post.

Apparently the Germans only record deaths as being due to Covid-19 if there are no underlying medical conditions which is probably why their numbers are so low

The death figures only really provide any sort of picture when looked at over a reasonable time period....and that's really to observe the trajectory of the virus. In terms of actual people dying specifically of this virus there are always a percent where that's difficult to be certain of what actually killed someone when several aliments are acting at once.....in lots of cases it's a bit of this and a bit of that. The figure above the average is probably the safer long term bet.....that's probably true in all countries because there are variations in how deaths are being counted.....Germany being a good case in point.

Stirling will love this. ‘Male coronavirus patients with low testosterone levels are MORE likely to die from COVID-19, German hospital finds’ Twice as likely.
