I haven't heard anyone say it, but I totally agree with you. It was a rubbish concept and just made England and their fans look foolish. All because it is generally thought the game was started here. A symbol of english arrogance and a deserved stick to beat us with. An additional load on our team other countries just have to play football.

I presume someone has said it, probably a lot of people, but can we please never, ever, hear 'football's coming home' ever again. It's not big and it's not clever. Sorry, but it’s a great tune which the majority love when an international tournament comes around every two years. I’ve never known a song to unite a nation like ‘Football’s coming home’ does. It’s not about being big and clever, it’s a song which takes the piss out of ourselves for our long standing misery over failure to ever win anything.

It seems to just jinx or come back and haunt though. I enjoyed it in 96. Since then, I'm getting increasingly jaded with it. I'm not 100% convinced it's sung in an ironic way now but it's an interesting viewpoint. The big and clever comes from Vic & Bob.

Any chance of a revival of 'Back Home'in time for our plucky boys heading for Qatar next year? Or better still appropriate 'don't come home too soon'from our Scottish cousins.

surely the only people that think it's arrogant are non-English people who don't get the irony and humour in the song. Me and my mates sing it more when we play sh1t, because we know it's never coming home.

Basically every club in England, including ourselves, sing about being "by far the greatest team the world has ever seen" and it's not true for any of us.

I guess there are even some home supporters who don't get the song. He was a youngen to be fair, and perhaps not as accustomed as the rest of us to England performances in major tournaments.

I'd far rather hear that than "Rule Britannia" or "God Save the Queen". Neither have anything to do with football but hark back to the days of imperialism.
I have now sufficient funds to last me the rest of my life. Provided I don't buy anything. |
