I thought Max played very well yesterday but I fear for him in this team when others are fit. He doesnt seem to have nailed down his own position and I can see him having a stop start season all overr again. I know Roy gets critised for not playing him all the time but where is his best position in this team? I am torn on this one as I would love to see him play every week but there is not a nailed on place I would put him if all players are fit. Don’t be fearful It’s a team game and Roy will play horses for courses now he has a little more choice Edited by Mapletree (11 Aug 2019 9.27am)

Much much sharper so he’s not anonymous like last season. Getting into more dangerous positions with chances. Promising. If Meyer and Wilf play full games near each other it could be very successful, as long as Roy doesn’t select to play too much slow crab ball across midfield.

Now that Meyer is at best fifth choice for the midfield three is it time to move him on in January, Roy obviously doesn't rate him so cash in for say 12million and replace? loan or buy, looks also Camarasa deal might be cancelled,
“That’s a joke son, I say, that’s a joke.” “Nice boy, but he’s sharp as a throw pillow.” “He’s so dumb he thinks a Mexican border pays rent” “ “Son… I say, son, some people are so narrow minded they can look through a keyhole with both eyes.”__ Forhorn Leghorn |

Possibly, but he is still young (well compared to the rest of our first team squad)so he has time on his side. I do think he has something to offer as an impact sub when the game is a little more stretched.

Meyer certainly didn't come to us with a goalscoring record, having only scored 4 goals in 74 appearances in all competitions in his previous 2 seasons. When he arrived he was much heralded but as I kept telling people that if he was that good, he would really have been in demand by a host of clubs and he wouldn't have ended up on a 'Free' at a team who finishes in the bottom half of the PL after a relegation struggle. I don't recall Guaita being lauded in the same manner as that afforded to Meyer who was billed as this young star, indeed I once read comments that he was the continent's most accomplished playmaker, "Wunderkind" etc etc etc.He did come with a bit of a reputation and I believe our supporters expected much more than he has delivered. As may be but when you spend 60-70 minutes every game trying not to purposely attack the opposition it's difficult to fit an attacking midfielder on the pitch.

I still think he could live up to those expectations and certainly has the talent. It's hard to do that when you aren't given an opportunity and when playing for a manager that doesn't play to his strengths. Players like Camarasa, Meyer and even Benteke could very easiy flourish under a manager that played to their strengths. We are getting the results though under Roy and whilst it's not exactly exciting, it's hard to complain when we are sat in the top half of the table. If you look at our starting line up, we really only have one creative player in the team in Zaha, everyone else is very functional. You could maybe add PVA to that, but he's more attacking than creative. Until a manager that plays a more expressive style comes to the club, we won't see the best of Meyer or Camarasa until maybe the last 4 games of the season when we are mathematically safe.

I think that both Meyer and Camarasa just don't fit into Hodgson's style of play. Regards Meyer, I believe he has featured in 40 games for us and I cannot conclude that his performances overall have matched the reputation he arrived with.Without having seen him play I really did question that if this young star was as good as had been portrayed why he ended up with us. I accept that in a team which plays more expansive football he could thrive but perhaps not hit the heights consistent with the reputation he arrived with at our club.

Well, it seems Max has finally had enough and packed it in with Palace and the UK, pursuing an entirely different career altogether. Attachment: IMG_20191204_131130.jpg (621.72Kb)
