This is, as I suspected, a recipe for affirmative action, which is something an organisation like the BBC is always likely to adopt. They feel compelled to ensure that their staffing broadly matches the diversity to be found in modern Britain. Which is who they serve and not one section of it. Meanwhile, the well-heeled BBC eleite, for all their posturing anti-racism, retreat to private schools and affluent enclaves, the better to maintain a homogeneous culture while pronouncing on the benefits of diversity.

So if you go to a private school, you are not allowed to support diversity?

I think if you have not experienced, first hand, the realities of modern Britain, then your opinions have to be questioned about how they were formed. When people quite literally wash up on the UK's shores, they are not being sent to live in leafy parts of the country. Instead, they are being placed in areas that are already rife with social problems and people in competition for scarcer resources. I would argue that for many middle-class people, their definition of the joys of multiculturalism/diversity are based solely on the choice of restaurants they might choose to grace with their custom rather than having to live next door to a house of multiple occupation that is, at best, loosely licenced or at worse, a converted garage that a blind eye is turned to due to the corruption present in local government. Having cheaper plumbers, being blessed with 30 different types of pasta in the local Waitrose and the occasional brief exchange of pleasantries with the owner of that ever so hip new bistro that serves a fusion of Bengali and Romanian vegan dishes (whilst not paying too much attention to just how they can put the food on the plate that cheaply given wage costs) is perhaps not the best template upon which to wax lyrical on about the joys of a modern diverse UK. And certainly not be all preachy about it. Edited by Matov (31 Jul 2021 10.04am)

I mean I am all for open migration but it just isn't the right place for that type of thing wouldn't it be better to open one on that council estate 5 miles down the road. It only has to do with seeking to ensure a workforce representative of your client base. Maybe the difference is too subtle for you, but it's the motivation behind the action which is the determinant.
Maybe we should deport all Asian rapists to the middle of the North Sea by calling it 'affirmative action'.

For the avoidance of doubt any comments in response to a previous post are directed to its ideas and not at any, or all, posters personally. |

These kind of people will never view these decisions negatively themselves until it personally negatively affects them. That's fundamentally who they are.
