It’s not the same thing, but not because it has been reported in the Mail! I read the story, as you must have done, on the BBC website, which is what you link to. If you read the story the difference is clear. Whilst the details are not yet clear the Biden attorneys who found them immediately handed them over to the FBI and Biden’s team are cooperating in full in the investigation to discover what has happened. Trump and his team actively resisted handling over a large number of files and are suspected of destroying others. I have little doubt that the right will try to claim equivalence and make this worm cast into the Alps. I also expect them to ask why this has only now become public knowledge when the truth is there was actually no need for it to ever become public knowledge, at least until some wrong doing has been established. That it has been announced, in the interests of transparency, is to be praised, not criticised. Trump’s lack of cooperation could hardly be kept secret given the need to raid his home. The negotiations with him had gone on, in secret, for months previously. There is no equivalence. That though won’t stop the right’s wolves frothing for months over a tiny bone devoid of meat. I note though that they stress no nuclear parts to it. Why say that then. Was there nuclear bits in what trump got found with or is it a curved ball as what Biden has kept could be a lot worse than trump. Juicy

'It's not the same thing'. Yeah, it's ok when we do it. Because reasons. Zzzzzzz. The whole thing is a load of b0llocks....state officials have been breaking this rule since...as far as I heard the first Clinton. Most probably long before that and no action was taken. This was never acted on before with anything like the political bias now. The States has become a bit of a banana republic.

Juicy I don’t think anyone other than those who have seen the documents retained by Trump know what they are, other than that some were highly classified. Whether that means nuclear secrets we will need to wait for. I guess the WH, and it was the WH who made the statement, not the FBI or Justice Dept, decided to reassure when saying nothing nuclear was involved.

It's worth noting that years prior there was strong indication of intention to share nucleur info to the Saudis [Link] so I'm sure we can see what the logical implication of what happened since may be. I too would be very interested to learn what the Biden classified documents are about. That itself could be reveal motivation, as in clerical error vs intentional. How and why they came to be there could be ascertained from the contents. There are certainly similarites, with the key difference being that this related to 10 documents Biden's lawyers personally notified DOJ and the National Archive of and then handed over. In Trump's case it was 325 documents that the DOJ and the National Archive had to notify Trump's lawyers of - as he denied having them - and then Trump refused to return. Repeatedly obstructing efforts to retrieve classified documents even after being subpoenaed is a meaningful difference. Some of the documents were of the highest level of security clearance where information release could cause 'grave national harm'. Historically, this was not in any way a normal or run of the mill turn of events at all. Edited by MrWhyNot (10 Jan 2023 11.18pm)

There has been no attempt to conceal or resist recovery. They were discovered by Biden’s team who themselves contacted the relevant authorities and have fully cooperated. This has all the hall marks of an unfortunate oversight. Whilst Trump’s has the hall mark of an abuse of power. I doubt if he had been challenged over a few papers he genuinely thought he could keep, and gave them up without arguments, we would have heard a word. No doubt in time we will know the truth but for now I know who my money is on coming away smelling of roses and who will just add to the deep smell of s***e that already surrounds them. Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance. |
