Major left office in 1997. The Good Friday agreement was made in 1998 under Tony Blair. You Tories always try to re-write history. The Tories opposed the creation of the NHS and declared Nelson Mandela a terrorist but that is not how they tell it now.

What the same Corbyn who was one of the most vociferous chaeerleaders in Westminster, regularly sharing platforms with activists thought to have kiiled Police officers, soldiers and civilians. The same Corbyn who hosted a party in Westminster for Adams to launch his autobiography which included the killing of a British soldier. That year we already had a spate of IRA attrocities on the mainland, including the bombing of 'Canary Wharf' and the detonation of a device on a bus in London. At the end of the day Corbyn's 'Comrades' had car-bombed, shot, tortured and killed thei way across the country. I could go on and on about Corbyn who has been a consistent apologist for terrorism. Not going to waste any more time on this thread on the dastardly Corbyn and his ridiculous Labour party - I have to be out canvassing on behalf of my party. Edited by Willo (01 Jun 2017 10.50am)

My point was that saying young people want everything for free but have no clue on funding was both inaccurate and in the context of modern history pretty insulting and hypocritical. There was also a distinct lack of long term modelling, future proofing of institutions and a lack of investment. It's now imperative that investment is put in place so that the next generation isn't the first to be worse off than their parents (which is the direction of travel).

I benefited from free higher education, even got a grant. Used to get tax relief on my first mortgage too. However, families like mine had no money to start with, higher education without help was just a non starter. No bank of mum and dad then.

How many people really have the bank of mum and dad as an option these days? Some certainly do, but the problem with that is that you just exacerbate issues of inequality if not everyone has that kind of leg up. At least it was more of level playing field for previous generations.
