So what is actually being requested? Would it not be better to expect everyone passing through a border check point to be wearing a mask? Indeed should that not be a requirement as you enter the departure airport for check in and continue until you leave the arrivals hall? Is that already being done? I read that temperature testing is being trialled somewhere, although how useful that would actually be remains an unknown, given the levels of asymptomatic infection of C19. If the UK has as high a level of infection as about anywhere else is it not true that the risk faced by border control officers is no less, but also no greater, than a cashier in a supermarket? Or am I missing something? I realise they will be handling passports and other documents but presumably are now wearing disposable gloves. If I am correct then the supermarket cashiers here are not wearing masks, or gloves, and have only recently been provided with perspex screens, which are not dissimilar to those found at an airport. I take your point but 1) Onr purpose of checking a passport is to match up the passenger with the image in their passport. Can’t be done if they are wearing a mask:

Passport Control desks have always had a space without perspex, to enable you to talk and exchange documentation. At Gatwick this area has only been covered with perspex in the last couple of weeks (bizarrely, they waited until passenger numbers had fallen dramatically.

Other countries and even the Isle of Man forced incoming travellers into designated hotels. If you leave them you get fined as one idiot on the IOM did.

Yep but the plan here is for passenger's to supply an address on arrival, where they are expected to stay indoors for 14 days (yeh right!). Inspectors could call unexpectedly to check you are complying (yeh right) who are these Inspectors? No chance of being able to check that they have given a correct address on arrival.

They may not give the correct address but next time their passport is checked for exit it could ping and then questions about false information will be asked. Missing their flight might be punishment enough. There will be repercussions and maybe this delay in implementing it is to protect from a 2nd wave and put these plans on checks in place.

I do wonder if, in a round about sort of way, they are trying to discourage people to travel, rather than just say we are closed

i think we are in for disappointing news with regards to the governments address later today...the f***wits thinking its ok to have street parties for VE day, or meeting in parks have shown people cant be trusted to be sensible in these times. ive noticed over the past 10 days the the roads are busier, towns are busier, lines at the supermarket are bigger...its sad to see.

Must have been 40 people there.
