Incorrect. On a BBC radio 5 phone-in yesterday a contributor, whose child had been at the dance class that was attacked, said he witnessed the trouble and confirmed that Southport people were involved, alongside people who he assumed were from elsewhere. When pushed by the presenter, but urged not to give names, he said he knew some of those involved well and they were local people who lived in the streets around where he lived. OK, I hadn’t heard that and haven’t seen it reported elsewhere. Has it been verified as accurate? It’s possible. I am sure there are people with sympathy for this kind of activity in Southport, as there are in most places. The general point remains. The local community were not behind this, have condemned it, helped clean up and have asked to be left in peace to grieve.

Being angry about what? Being upset and heartbroken about the loss of innocent life in an attack which makes no sense to anyone is natural. I feel that as strongly as everyone. Allowing those affected to grieve whilst providing them with as much support as possible is the only things they need. Displaying anger towards politicians, the police or the legal system because of a perception that they have failed in some way to provide sufficient protection helps no one. Allowing that anger to become violent, especially where the community is already in pain, is mindless thuggery. Excusing it is to encourage it. So these riots should, in my opinion, be unequivocally condemned out of hand and given no sympathy of any kind. They achieve nothing, take up police resources and make things worse. How we start to get control over knife crime is a much bigger problem than one incident, no matter how horrific. I don’t see easy solutions and haven’t heard any really practical suggestions. 'Let's all sit at home crying and do nothing about things because we don't want to upset a system which has paved the way for children to be murdered in the middle of the day'. Imagine being that much of a coward and believing there's some merit in asserting this position publicly and onto others.

The local community were not behind this, have condemned it, helped clean up and have asked to be left in peace to grieve. It all rather depends on how you define local. Some of the people arrested are from neighbouring areas. No doubt some are from further afield.

The 'bot' obviously doesn't read what it's beloved bbc report, y/day at 17.49 on this thread i posted that 4 people had been arrested & that 2 of them were living in Southport, this info came from the bbc's own news page. Further proof, if needed, that he hasn't got a clue what he's talking about.
This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise. |

In fairness, if you've not much going on upstairs, and no other route to identifying your own value, just parroting from a perceived authority is probably the only way to go.

Guilty as charged, but a bit like if a dog s***s outside your front gate, a deliberately obtuse and provocative troll is difficult to ignore. But when the 'ignore button' comes, the troll will then get the ultimate satisfaction of having his posts read exclusively by his greatest fan ... himself. He can then tell his imaginary friends how he's on a political discussion forum where everyone agrees with him.

Imagine being that much of a coward and believing there's some merit in asserting this position publicly and onto others. Do you seriously think bunches of bone headed, beered up latter day football hooligans hurling bricks at the police, burning police cars and looting shops is going to achieve anything other than occupy scarce police resources and cost us all money? There’s nothing cowardly about keeping a cool head, maintaining self control and trying to work with others to lower tensions and then find ways forward. ndeed it often demands courage to face down bullies and not respond with violence.

That's not the solution but neither is yours. One represents rejection of the reality and the other is acceptance of it however. Accepting that reality is cowardly.
