Means testing needs to be done on income not assets. There are a lot of older people living in homes that have gone up in value recently but this can only be realised when the house is sold.

These people may well need the winter allowance and, would be in no position to pay any for of wealth tax.

Labour has quickly shown it's colours of favouring those on benefits .

So much for the policy of making work pay

A smaller black hole than suggested by the dishonest communist Chancellor.
Black hole made bigger by Labour's choices.
I am actually quite worried about what she will do in October.
The only silver lining is that they will be voted out in 5 years time having wrecked the place even more.
There will be some people out there wondering why they put the cross in the red box.
Vote in haste and repent at leisure.

Fuel duty up, pension release taxed, NI up.
A merry Xmas all around

As usual it's all slippery words, same as Conservatives before. The supposed black hole includes wage increases not funded in the manifesto but planned anyway.

Let's start by reducing the size of govt, i.e the 100,000 + civil servants recruited since covid, get some real productivity and cut the DEI costs and similar wastes, have a hard look at every NGO that gets funding and the usual suspect, the foreign " aid " budget.

No idea why the link has gone - sorry.
On another note I listened to a PMQ's - I presume - from earlier this year where Starmer called Sunak out about the possibility of cancelling the winter fuel allowance for pensioners and told him he thought it was the worn thing to do.
He also accused Sunak of doing so to help make up the £46billion black hole in finances.
Sorry - Reeves and he are lying weasels.
The IFS have said that there was a hole, just not the size that Reeves said but it became bigger when she awarded a ton of above inflation pay rises to the public sector - with more to come!
They will wreak havoc on everyone and it is fair to say that if there was another election today, they would not get in.
Cowardly to say all that she has before the recess but the honeymoon appears to be well and truly over!

In your head, maybe. If you just take a few deep breaths, you'll see the sky is in fact not caving in.

It must be exhausting to work yourself into such a frenzy every single day - are you going to keep it up for 5 years?

The sky is not caving in if you are a net taker from the system. The problem is that you need net contributors to pay for the takers.

Well they certainly won't get any pensioners voting for them. If losing the winter fuel allowance wasn't bad enough it looks like Bank of England may drop the lending rate today so that pensioners' savings will attract less interest.

A double whammy and they've only been in a month

Well, that shouldn't cost too much seeing as no-one in the country can seem to get to see one, as they are such a rare breed these days
