Gareth has stated today and I quote......

"I am the problem"

Imagine if a league manager said that.

But I actually admire such honesty. It's surely the first step towards making things better.

I simply do not see what others see in Rice - especially in the position england are playing him in, a DM 'quaterback' role.

Before the Italy final, I thought he was atrocious for Englad. That Final was his best game by a long way, and he was the best player on the pitch up til that point he got subbed.

He's been no better than 'decent' ever since, and has nailed down the DM role as that is what he played at wetSpam.. and through lack of other options. He Doesn't play the same role at the Arse (and has looked better for it) AND we have more options now.

I've said previously that Wharton and Mainoo could form the basis of our midfield for the next 10 years, but dropping them in it in a knockout stage is probably a step too far, two steps for Southgate. I hope the next man in at least considers this as an option.

Not both, just Wharton.

So after a nights rest, and initial anger has passed...

We're through the group. The Group stage is one that garners some different pressures, where draws 'are good enough', and this can be restrictive.
It's now knockout football. Draws are no good. Penalties are risky.
We should expect Belgium and Netherlands to end up in our half too, So although the easier half, there's still dangerous teams. Add Austria to that list - they've been the surprise package of the tournament. Italy are always dangerous, and the swiss are no pushovers.
I hope now that the group stage mentality is over, we will see more from england.

I also hope we get to play the Dutch in last 16, as that could be a really entertaining game. no idea who will win it.

am I positive? no. I can see us bumbling through to the semis and losing to Austria.

Your scenario ist my best-case-scenario! Unfortunately in case we (Austria) beat Turkey we'll probably face the Netherlands for the second time in the last 8. And lightning never strikes twice and so on ......

Knowing the FA, they will have a travelling psycho analyst who may be able to explore where Gareths issues lie and over the next period approaching the world cup, how to help him overcome them. A bit like the American VAR analyst who gave her views on why the Georgia forward being touched was a penalty. Firstly her accent was like a foreign language and secondly her views were insane.
If football pursues this depth of psych analysis I reckon it will be game up.

Stick to Glasnor's mentality. We need and want to score goals to win matches and 'Oh yes' the fans love us scoring.
Start at that basic and you won't go far wrong if you can convince your players to play ball.

I've often thought that the FA itself needs psychoanalysis.

If we win tomorrow the Swiss will have an extra day. Thus, expect more of the same and an ugly "lucky" win against the Slovaks. The type of win you want will be too energy sapping.

Sorry.

Howard Webb probably advised him that decisions in favour of Germany can pay off privately.

How? The first one was offside and the second was that wally Attwell applying the "laws" of the game (whatever that means with handball!).

I don't agree with that handbal l at all. Before VAR the goal would've stood and it wouldn't have been a penalty.
