i never trusted FiFA after the Thierry Henry handball.

All the refereeing in this World Cup looks dodgy.

They are trying to engineer a Final with :

France vs somewhere small & with a tired depleted squad (red cards, injuries etc).

I think i'm one of the few people who doesn't want to see Southgate go, I think he has done an excellent job. However, Wiegman is who I would like to see replace him. Of course there are differences in the men's and women's game but from what I can tell, she seems like an excellent tactician, great use of substitutions, positive and attacking with a ruthless mindset and seems to be a great motivator and of course a winner, which is perhaps what we are missing

Steve Cooper. Managed several of the players at Youth level and has won a WC.

Awful referee, awful substitutions, awful draw for us of course. Had we won this I’d of fancied us to do the unthinkable and win the WC.

However, I could have written that script. Of all the teams left I did think we were the strongest. I would have said France before todays game but we were the better side.

Southgate has done well in creating a positive culture for the players however that is not enough, you need a winning culture.

This England team is nowhere near as bad but has the same weak mentality and gutlessness we’ve all become so used to. Id quite confidently assert it’s the best England team I’ve ever seen and possibly the best team in the world. We’ve seen the likes of Germany, Spain, Portugal and even Brazil fall due to poor mentality and of course we have now gone to as we always do. France have a superior attitude and belief.

Not saying this out of anger etc. but I genuinely don’t care that much, far less than I used to certainly. May be timing of wc, may be just getting older or anything else but I consider myself an England ‘fan’ however it’s not anywhere remotely close to my feelings for Palace. As mentioned on another thread I have a sum total of four eagles tattooed on me, no lions however. Roll on Boxing Day and good luck Croatia (my sweepstake team).

I kind of get what you're saying about the winning mentality, but at the top, top level of international football, that mentality is earned. France have earned it. We're not quite there and it showed. It's not down to management but it's down to clawing your way up to the top. I was pretty underwhelmed after the Euros final. I think Southgate learned from that. Enough for me to want to see him have another go at that tournament. I think the current players are closer than they've ever been to being good enough physically and mentally as well. Fine margins. France have the experience that we don't.

some good points on this thread, And many I agree with.

After 2 days of Grief - mostly in The form of Anger over Why Sterling and Mount were sent on when we needed a goal - here's my more reasoned view of the game;

played well, but France kept us where they wanted us and Why the feck did he put Sterling and Mount On ?! unbelievable.

Someone said it earlier, but we are 'flat track bullies'. Which is a vast improvement over 'calamatous f*ck ups', and that's Southgates legacy. He's improved us no end in that regard, but seems to have some block over what it takes to win games against decent opposition.

I'm not saying get rid, but this cannot continue. England are perennial nearly men - the Tottenham of world football. Always something halting our plucky gutsy performance that just fell short; aggrieved at something beyond our control. This has always been the case for as long as I can remember (I've blanked out the Hodgson years), and I'm fed up with it.

We looked the better team on the night, but the difference was that when France needed to score, they created a half chance, and did. All I wanted us to do in the final 10 mins was to lay siege to their goal, but we couldn't even do that, yet it's regularly done to us. It's a Mentality thing, we just don't have the right one.

We need to stop making Excuses, and go out there and Win something.

I may well be wrong, but I always have the impression that Southgate manages by encouragement & kindness - given his often 'woke' attitudes this is unsurprising if it is so.

Maybe, sometimes he just needs to get the hairdryer out!

He'd be decent in my opinion but obviously not fashionable or cool.

Some might opine that the England manager should be English and not Welsh !

when Sven Goran Ericsson was winning, everybody loved him.

When Alan Pardew keeps losing we hated him for it.

Satan himself can manage, so long as he keeps winning.

For the simple reason that it is the model of plausibility that there could be a significant number who will be of the opinion that the England men's football team should be managed by an English manager for patriotic reasons.
I have heard the argument that passion, motivation and the love for your country are major motivators.

The ladies team is of course managed by a Dutch lady and the Rugby team until recently was managed by an Australian.
