The facts are his antecedence!

Maybe he was ready to play in the last 10 mins last Sunday and Roy could have given him a chance.

Forest and Bristol City looking at him. Makes sense, both in with a chance of promotion.

If we can get something for him then so be it and use it to bring in a less injury prone player. I like the look of Bowen at Hull or Watkins at Brentford but can't see Wickham wanting to go to either.

If he could go out on loan until the end of the season to a club that desperately needs a striker, gets straight in the team, and doesn't get injured, we could probably get a decent price for him in the summer. I think he'd be a perfectly good Championship striker if he could stay fit.

Good point about a loan, the sticking point as you say is in bold.

For me, this guy deserves a chance in the next few games. Yes, I know he's a walking injury and yes I know he's likely to "never be the player he was" after an injury like he had but he's done nothing to suggest he's any less of an option than Benteke or rather Benteke has done nothing to suggest he's any more of an option than CW.
Connor is a goalscorer at premier league level and since we don't have any one else doing it on a regular basis why not give him some minutes? If he fails, then we lose nothing as it's not like our other current options are banging goals in and then he goes out on loan as previously suggested in this thread.

I like him. Please Roy? Just to humour me...

Benteke has been playing fairly regularly over the last three years. Wickham hasn't.

Benteke can't buy a goal but there are signs of improvement in his overall game and I don't think Wickham can get anywhere close to where he needs to be without proper game time. And that should be out on loan somewhere.

Our team can't nursemaid Wickham through games.

I think Wickham is technically better than Benteke and so, if the latter does not start scoring in the next few games then Wickham should be given a chance (and I don't mean coming on as an 80 minute substitute!)

Benteke is being given a starting place so if he fails then Wickham deserves to be tried.

The caveat to all this is - we have to find players able to make crosses and, especially, take corners.
Our captain is playing poorly and his attempts at finding anybody in the box are risible. As we don't now win many penalties his ability here is not sufficient to justify his place - Van Arnholt and Ayew are capable from the spot and Cahill is a far better leader.

Quite amazing that some posters are expecting Wickham to be a viable option, particularly given his very serious problems with injury.

Indicitive of our poor scoring record and playing a target man who has only scored 1 goal in his last 37 games for us and the last of his goals at Selhurst Park being in April last year. His only goals this season have been for Belgium, against San Marino and Cyprus.

Wickham might be going to the Championship in January.

Given the fact that Wickham's been injured more than he's played & compared to Benteke he's not had game time I'd still give him the nod ahead of CB who's hardly justifying his selection still. Maybe Wickham's due another injury, who knows but, if he's got 2/3 games in him before then I'd lay more cash on him finding the net than CB at the moment, he's still drawing a wage so what's to lose
