Where's the evidence of his attitude problems? From what I've seen, his attitude looks spot on. Compare this to the Sterling saga. Plenty of media speculation, yet Austin has his head down and is going on QPR's training camp, not whinging about not being sold. Unless there are some stories I haven't heard about, I'm going to have to disagree with most on here - I think he'd be a great signing - you don't score 18 goals in the premier league down to luck alone.

I do accept he scored 18 goals. This was over 35 games though. If you look at Murray he score 8 in 18. If he was to play the same amount, I do not think he would have been too far behind in goals.

If he was on offer for 6-8m then maybe worth a punt but for 15m and potentially loose people like Mariappa who I think is a good backup defender, it just does not seem a good enough deal.

I do not believe he is on the same level as Cabaye but on the same level of our other players.

I agree with you. Austin is young dynamic and scored goals at every level. Remy would be ven better if we can get him. Both have serious injury recirds, so fingers criossed on that front. What does now seem highly likely now is that a new striker with a good to excellent scoring record will be signed over the next few weeks...exciting times!

Charlie Austin - Modern Day Clive Allen. i.e not worth anything like 15 million.

But then again if sterling is worth 49 million then who the feck knows.

We've got Muzza so Remy would add a different dynamic but Austin is still definitely worth going for if we cannot get Loic. Either way, the fact that we are being seriously linked with, players we wouldn't have dreamed of even last season says all we need to know about the club's direction and intent. We will get 2 or 3 others in but they won't be squad fillers. We may get a few promising players in to and get good money for some of our fringe players. Third season and SP and Co along with Super Al's experience have really got us on the up. The fact that SKY have 3 of our first 7 games on and announced before Cabaye was confirmed says it all. Also Pards would like the chance of a serious cup run after not being able to at Newcastle. Get your punt on top 10 at 5/2...not exactly a long shot is it! And I'm a diehard, long in the tooth realist. If we keep the main players and add Remy...nuff said!

you can't just say murray goals in a season would be 24 if he played the same amount as austin...
thats just plain stupid... austin is an upgrade on murray in every aspect apart from heading maybe..
he's younger, quicker, better shot and is a tad taller
its a no brainer if we want to progress

however saying all that if it were my choice i would take remy every day of the week, he is class

Murray is a much better target man , in terms of holding the ball up and linking play , Austin is very poor at this , but has improved , this is why they played two upfront last year and Zamora featured so much. Austin would certainly be a better option for those home games like villa , west from etc where we needed a poacher or Bette finisher to make the difference. I still believe remy is the best overall striker we have been linked to and should go all out to get him , I'm also suprised we haven't been back In For gestede he seems to have all the attributes we need for the current setup , i.e big and can hold the ball up , excellent in the air , quick for his size and a good finisher.

Remy would be a different dynamic to Austin. But you know who else is? Dwight Gayle. And look how well he fits into our system. I don't think Remy is suited for our non possession based game. Although I suppose our game will change this season so who knows

That's an interesting point. I think towards the end of last season our game play had already began to change to a more possession style based game. Now with Cabaye you would have thought there is going to be more emphasis on keeping the ball, although outside of perhaps Cabaye and Puncheon do we have many clever passers of the ball? Perhaps include McArthur in that as well. But the rest are all very prone to losing the ball. Bolassie's and Zahas' game is very much a 50/50 game of beating the man, taking pot shots and wild crosses that go far over the intended target usually. So given our strategy has often been wing play, that entails less possession in its very nature in many respects.

We will certainly be a better team that passes the ball more and keeps more posession, and it will be interesting to see how far Pardew is going to drill that down.

Although, I am not expecting to be watching Barcelona at the start of this season! This is Palace we are watching after all!

Would be a great signing but i think it'll be too much of a bun-fight as there are son many other clubs after him. 15m would represent another gamble

According to the agent Paul Smith, pretty much no one is after Austin. The only firm bid/expression of interest has come from Norwich and all the noise is an agents attempt to drum up interest as QPR would like to cash in, but are finding there's not much of a market. Teams are very aware of the negatives; only one season of achievement in the Premier League, serious injury in the past, fairly limited footballing and physical attributes beyond the goalscoring itself. He's not going to go for anything like 15 million and quite possibly, 8m + Mariappa and Guediora (for instance) would get it done one reality dawns on QPR.
