My point being this is a recipe for wars crimes until their ultimate demise on the front lines.

Mass grave uncovered in Izyum Most apparently appear to be victims of war & hastily buried a few claims that some of the buried were executed but I've seen no evidence of that. Not safe for work [Tweet Link]

All those convicts will just be more meat for the grinder. They will be up against seasoned soldiers so it will be like shooting fish in a barrel I’m afraid!

Edited by Stirlingsays (16 Sep 2022 11.36pm) That you think disapproving of physical violence means being scared of it, indicates a very warped mindset. Bullies think the strongest should dominate. Others think ideas must. The election of Biden has nothing to do with this. Indeed it is more puzzling as to why Putin didn’t do it whilst Trump was still in office as he would have been less likely to have agreed to the level of support needed, and been a difficulty to NATO. Biden has been resolute by comparison. The whole basis of the nuclear deterrent, of assured mutual destruction, is, and has always been, terrifying. That’s its point though, and it works. Putin uses that terror as a weapon, just as much as he uses energy. He wants us to believe he is unstable and could do the unthinkable. He uses the fear of people like you to weaken the resolve of those directing our support for Ukraine. They are pawns in the hands of Putin and are being manipulated by social media trolls based in Russia, who sow the web with propaganda. This is not a “pointless war”. It’s the invasion of a sovereign state by a much bigger neighbour. We allow it to succeed at our peril. Appeasement doesn’t work. It makes eventual outcomes worse by delay. Finding ways to satisfy all the genuine concerns and desires of the people involved can only be done with careful and honest negotiation. By the use of ideas. Not by bullies. I see some straws in the wind that suggest there is a glimmer of hope that those ideas may be about to surface.
For the avoidance of doubt any comments in response to a previous post are directed to its ideas and not at any, or all, posters personally. |

Edited by georgenorman (17 Sep 2022 8.08am) What kind of idiot thinks that understanding the incredible generational human destruction of nuclear impacts equates to a lack of bravery. I know the value of violence and I know its destruction. No one should advocate for a war that they are not prepared to fight and die in. I don't fight stupid wars.

According to Bloomberg Europe is preparing a blackout plan to prevent winter chaos and uncontrolled outages. Russians are saying that they had to endure 'rolling blackouts' after the collapse of the USSR in the nineties. Just remember those who advocated for prolonging this war between slavs when you can't even afford to heat your home or pay your bills and you have to deal with not even having electricity along with the privilege. Idiocy.

Morality in war reduces the longer it goes on: slavs are brutal in war and don't have quite the same cultural heritage of restraint. That's why de-escalation was so important early on....but the 'appeasement' crowd wanted their war and now we are all going to have to suffer for it. Edited by Stirlingsays (17 Sep 2022 10.55am)

I'm advocating solidarity with Ukraine fighting back against a contemptible regime rather than meekly surrendering to them.

I have no issues with those who want to fight actually fighting. There are multiple wars going on where you can play goodie and baddie: get going. I'll fight when it's in my interest to fight. I'll suffer when there's a point and an outcome worth suffering for that doesn't result in huge risk.
