Again fully reported in all bulletins.

Why is this thread choc full of posters who attack but don't listen/watch? Memories of Mary Whitehouse who used to challenge the morality of shows she had never seen.

There are good arguments up the thread on public funding for a service losing its audience to streaming etc., but this kind of barrel scraping criticism is not them.

You don't have to experience something to have a view on its morality. I've never murdered anyone but I think murder is immoral.

She is perhaps an extreme example but nevertheless she wasn't wrong. She correctly highlighted the decline in morality. I dread to think how she would react to the current dross that fills the screens....it would probably kill her a second time.

It's unlikely that Hamas are mining busy roads that have their own people on them.

I suppose you could take the line that they are killing their own people deliberately but it's probably not the case.

Once the Israeli armour comes in and the streets are a battleground I imagine they will start mining.

I bet it is.

I couldn't see anything on BBC website about Louvre. If I missed it fair enough if someone can send a link.

Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance.

Spurious argument. The two cannot be compared. Just silly imo.

No it isn't.

For example, Mary Whitehouse's belief that swearing in TV shows is bad doesn't mean she had to watch every show that contains swearing in it to justify the belief.

The content of programmes and the morality therein is open to debate and opinions will differ, of course. Sometimes context will colour our view on that. There were/are many that believe that swearing, for instance is acceptable within tv programmes.

When it comes to murder, it is universally agreed that it is against the law, morally wrong, a capital offence and against the tenets of just about all religions.

A fair enough take.

Legally executing Ian Huntley would not be murder, it would be a public service though.

This is the perfect argument for capital punishment. Without that sanction it makes sadists of innocent bystanders and the victims.
