The issue for many about the BBC, not calling Hamas a Terrorist organisation, is this not just a whim but the official policy of the UK government and other countries.

Whether that is a justified description or that others should also be called it is moot for the purposes of this topic, they are defined as that which is a fact which the BBC is so beloved of.

The BBC is always going on about being factual and yet it refuses to use the official designation passed by Parliament.

If however the BBC chooses not to use this because they want to be broadcaster to the world and not show favour then they should be reminded that they are the state broadcaster for this country, paid for by the taxpayers. If they want that much independence then abolish the licence fee and go your own way.

I suppose if they wanted to be correct and show their impartiality the BBC would say “ Hamas a designated terrorist organisation by the UK government”

It always goes back “one man’s terrorist is another man’s freedom fighter”

Hamas would argue that the world doesn’t take their plight seriously and no one does anything about the illegal occupation their land and the suppression of the Palestine people. They therefore have to take drastic action. Killing civilians however is not obviously the way although they would argue Israel has done that for years.

It’s all a bloody mess with both sides having committed atrocities over the years.

Can you remind me when Israel beheaded babies, killed children in front of their parents, raped women before killing them and burned people alive?

Claims.

I repeat, can you remind me when Israel beheaded babies, killed children in front of their parents, raped women before killing them and burned people alive?

Israel are responding to the attacks by Hamas.

That’s pretty much what they do. They make no excuses for terrorist acts but don’t classify people in their own voice. They report how others classify them.

That way they can maintain their strict impartiality.

That they are defined by the government as a terrorist organisation is routinely reported by the BBC. That is indeed a fact.

They won’t do so in their own voice. The BBC, thank goodness, are not a spokesperson for any government and to maintain impartiality and trust, even when reporting on the most heinous of atrocities, they won’t label the perpetrators. They allow us to reach our own conclusions.

There are lots of people here who neither like or, in my view, truly understand the role and purpose of, the BBC. They would like to reduce them to be just another broadcaster.

I disagree. I believe they are one of our very few remaining stand out examples of us leading the world.

Notwithstanding what I said above, the problem with Hamas is they were elected. Thus, it was (past tense) difficult to describe them as terrorists if they were also duly elected representatives for their people. It is wholly counter to the definition of that word to describe an elected body as terrorists. Thus, if you describe them as terrorists, you MUST also describe Israel as the same, given they murder hundreds of innocent - but "acceptable collateral" - Palestinians every year. It is a murky area.

That said, their conduct and constitution has altered all that to the extent that the UK has had to formally designated them as such.

Nevertheless, it stuns me that many posters on here are genuinely of the view that the only good Arab/Muslim is a dead one. I find those views appalling and have a great deal of sympathy with the Palestinian people who have been robbed and exiled and then repeatedly kicked while down.

However, my sympathy does not extend to Hamas. Not just through their conduct, but by their desire to murder millions of Israelis and then set up a brutal, theocratic dictatorship.

The trouble is, I do not know how to wipe them off the face of the map without murdering countless innocents. It is certainly not by the methods adopted by the current murderous, failed, Israeli government whose blood lust will cause awful consequent events to ripple through history. All this while the West sits in the sidelines cheering them on, oblivious to the consequences.

Hamas may have been elected but that was back in 2006 and there haven’t been elections since (I think that is correct). So back in 2006 Hamas may have been a good choice for the electorate but if they haven’t had a chance to vote them out since then Hamas could have morphed into something else. Rather like the EEC morphing into the EU and the electorate not being given a chance to object…

hats off to palace, they were always gonna be louder, and hate to say it but they were impressive ALL bouncing and singing.

Usual stuff about BBC 'impartiality' from the usual suspects. Will not 'label' terrorists, but never hesitate to label many groups critical of left wing causes as 'far right'.

ah yes. Like two kids fighting in a playground telling the teacher ''he started it, he hit me''

You implement 'and eye for an eye' and you create a World of blind people. The Middle-East.....there are fv..ckers fighting on both sides. And each side is feeding revenge from the other side.

Not you too! Pretty much what I said if you read the whole post (although I am not biting on the Brexit analogy).
