Just about every (so called) independent financial advisor I have ever spoken to has said that by the time I need state pension it will not be worth the proverbial state pot to pee in.

I am not saying its not true (state coffers may be empty) -
I just cant help feeling cynical about the place this guidance is coming from.

A huge amount is paid out for compensation by various government agencies.

When you stop and think for a minute the waste is mind boggling, then there's the future pension provisions.

There is a school of thought that the state pension will have run out of money by 2040

Labour have 100% refused to rule out taxing the state pension so might get shabbier soon

Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance.

They already do tax the State Pension - they just don't deduct the tax from it.

If your pension is above the tax threshold, the Inland Revenue will bill you annually for any tax due, and if you have a private pension, annuity or any other income, then the tax for everything is deducted from that.

That is my understanding. I already pay tax on my private pension so when my state pension kicks in I will reduce the income from that by £11,500 to avoid paying more.

I think the issue is that many people just have a state pension to live on, and because the income tax threshold has not been raised for years, whilst pension have gone up, it is possible that they could pay tax in the future solely on their state pension.

Both parties are wriggling around on this, they know that taxing someone just on their state pension is a voting disaster but neither side wants to commit not to.

Finally someone worth voting for.

As he says, he wants reform to be the proper opposition to Labour.

The Conservatives need to cease existing.

It’s not going to make any difference. The only question is how big the Labour majority is going to be. The most recent poll, a sophisticated one from YouGov, suggests it will be bigger than a landslide, but that Reform will still get no seats.

Farage might change that a little and take Clacton himself, but it’s what happens next to the Tories that’s really interesting. Will they fade away with their right wing walking over to Reform? Or will they dig in, rebuild and allow Labour to carry the can for the next 5 years? Who leads the Tories after Sunak is important. That fight has already started.

Until we get PR we won’t see either Reform or the LibDems getting the numbers the level of their support justifies. That won’t be on offer from a Labour government with a huge majority.

Why would any sensible person want more Lib Dems?

As has been proven recently across europe. With "right wing" parties making a mockery of them come.election day.

Polls mean absolutely nothing. They are just made up. What counts is votes on election day. (Unless it's America)
