None of us were in the room when they signed the contracts. I'm sure (guessing) just about everyone around at the time of signing MO from Reading would have said its a huge win if Palace made M profit in 2 years from the deal they crafted. It's a shame we can't keep him if the rumours are true but saying Dougie and team negotiated a bad deal just isn't true. There are very few businesses around (yes we are a business) that wouldn't take this profit. Far too much common sense

I remember seeing somewhere that his parents are his agent, are extremely involved in his development and drive a very hard bargain. I can imagine they’re not being very flexible with a readjustment of the release clause. The fact he has had personal terms agreed with Chelsea for a while does suggest that his parents have forced our hand. It’s a hard lesson, it’s all good and well buying young talent and selling them on for a profit but the club has to be well compensated for taking the risk. On a positive note, it has happened with time still left in the window so hopefully we can bring someone in? Not likely but possible. Edited by Bazinda (15 Aug 2023 6.33pm)

SSN just confirming that Olise's clause has 100% been activated, Apparently, has removed any past linkage to Palace on social media so will sign for Chelsea faster than a rat deserting a sinking ship, having already agreed personal terms.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

When we bought Olise for £8m I remember the release clause set at £35m thinking well if we ever get that it will be good business. So we will get £35m whoever buys him. If Man City come on strong, Olise is going to be a very rich young lad sadly not us.

With the new offside laws just round the corner, what we need now are some super fast youngsters up front. They will get an extra metre and still be onside. That is huge. Olise is guile not speed. Buy speed Dougie its where the game is heading.

However we dress this up, it is crap for the club. The potential to have team that can actually go places evaporates once again with the big greedy clubs wrecking the chances for the smaller ones. It makes you wonder why we bother to invest so much effort supporting a club. No doubt he will be replaced with someone inferior or not at all.

I don't think anyone can complain about the release clause without being in the room when the terms were agreed. I'll be interested to know what his new release clause is Now, clubs will know we are desperate and push prices up I still can't understand why other clubs aren't in for him. He's better than Almiron, Man City have a Mahrez-side hole in their squad and PSG are supposed be looking for more French youngsters

Best hope now is that City come in with a bid to push the price up. Olise would surely prefer to play for Pep than Poch and in the Champions League next year. Wouldn’t begrudge him that if we got a fair value for him.
