Rhapsody.

An English win.

Another thriller full of twists, a bit of sense creeping into bazball got us over the line.

In a strange way it has probably helped that they won despite Stokes going cheaply for once. Shows they're not a one man team.

Had palpitations when Brooked holed out with the end in sight. Woakes and Wood saw it home.

Heros: Woakes, Woods, Stokes in the 1st innings, Brooks.
Crawley was steady.

On the downside: Root and Bairstow poor in both the field and with the bat. The stats show Bairstow bats much better when he doesn't keep. Both disappointed on their home pitch.

Not much doubt that the Aussies are the best team in the world.
Puts the achievement of the English team into context.

Bairstow has been a poor selection for keeper, dropped some vital chances.

Foakes has been treated pretty poorly considering how good he is.

Agreed, Bairstow has had a poor series. I suspect he could be dropped. His keeping has always been a little suspect but he's been great with the bat sometimes - not in this series though. Foakes certainly the better keeper.

Hard to argue with this. Foakes is half decent with the bat too. Bairstow has had a shocker with the gloves and needs to be relieved of his wicket keeping duties.

Trouble with Jonny is that he's a potential match winner and has a blockbuster innings in him which makes him hard to drop. Personally, I'd promote him to three and get Foakes in too.

Had a go on the BBC pick your team for the 4th Test which is bloody difficult. A lot depends on Stokes fitness and ability to bowl. If he can, I think you can fit both Bairstow and Foakes in the same team, if not, one needs sacrificing for a bowler, unless you treat Root as the lead spinner and drop Mo.

Selection headache. What a great series so far.

Bairstow did drop quite a few. Also partially at fault for leaving his crease early. Might be worth the odd change, but I would be tempted to let the core of the team try to get this series back.

I disengage, I turn the page.

Wood's going to have to play surely. It has been a series where the actual, proper 89-90 mph bowlers have done well. The one pace 82 mph bowlers not so well.

England not being great with selection has been a bane since I first started watching....ever since Gooch ended Gower's career a couple of years early just because he didn't fit his style.

Yep, I view the ECB's obsession with Ali as out of sync with his test stats and I'd have Root as the spinner unless it's a turner....in which case I'd have that promising youngster they played on tour.

Bairstow has always been a batsman who wanted to be a keeper, probably because of his Dad, but watching it seems that keeping was always a learned ability for him rather than a natural talent as it is for Foakes.

95 mph is serious pace.

Don't think I've seen that fast from an English bowler for a long time. It would be interesting to know if Malcolm got up to that speed....I know that Broad could bowl early nineties as a young man, but not for sustained periods.

I don't blame him for the dismissal personally.

That was a complete lack of sportsmanship by Australia....the ball was dead, it just hadn't been called.

India wouldn't have done that.

At the very least you warn the batsman.

100%. Worth considering recalling Josh Tongue for the same reason, thought he had a decent game at Lords and took some key wickets.

Robinson seems to have a back problem so will likely miss out, Broad has played 3 on the bounce so could be tired, and sorry to say it, but I think Jimmy might be over the hill now. He looks well off his best - he's only got 3 wickets in the two matches he's played in.
