With 70,000 delegates in the UAE for COP28 this climate business is getting trickier: "But the UN is having a hard time finding next year’s host as the number of delegates balloons." It's supposed to be in Eastern Europe next year but with Russia not playing ball there's nowhere big enough to host it. Presumably they don't all walk or get on their bikes to get there. Of course, they all need to be there as custodians of our planet....
Living down here does have some advantages. At least you can see them cry. |

Climate Activists. Throwing soup at the 'Mona Lisa' in the Louvre. Do these d1.ckheads get more publicity than somebody protesting....say immigration/Nato aggression/rape gangs/Big pharma or Ulez ? imagine throwing soup at a famous painting to protest any of the latter ? Was watching the news on Thursday and it had a whole piece on climate change. The conclusion was even if we stop doing everything that the change will still happen - we're past the brink of something. I said that in that case then we may as well do what we like. If climate change is now inevitable what exactly can I do? Nothing - so carry on. Move to higher ground?

Some of it is baked in for sure so we will have to adjust agriculture, strengthen coastal defences and accept relocation will be necessary in many places around the world. That’s not to say that the worst effects cannot be avoided or mitigated by positive collective action. They can and they must. What individuals can do depends entirely on their personal circumstances. Most won’t have to do anything other than accept there will costs for us all.

Edited by PalazioVecchio (28 Jan 2024 11.54am) They didn’t do it to protest did they? They did it to get attention. Judging by your comment it seems to have worked doesn’t it?

Climate change is always inevitable. We have juwst been living in a sweet spot. Some of it is for sure. It takes many lifetimes to materialise and then reverse. Individually we wouldn’t notice. The necessary adjustments happen naturally. What we are witnessing is man made climate change, which started after the Industrial Revolution and has gathered pace ever since. It’s much faster. Unless we get control of it, slow the rise and then reverse it, the future for the next generations will be dire. We have no options. We must act.

By closing down steel production and losing thousands of jobs then importing what we need from India and China thus adding transportation pollution.
