Not sure McNeil is the type of player that suits us. He is a good crosser, but looks one paced and doesn't score many

If you were bringing him in, you would actually want to hold on to Benteke as he's our only really decent header of the ball, and with McNeil he would definitely get good service. So what might look like a cheaper deal on paper, might actually be an expensive one if we had to hold on to Benteke to reap any real benefits. Edited by antipodeagle (04 Jul 2022 10.57pm)

The McNeil link is an interested one. A year or 2 ago he was in my opinion the main creative player for Burnley and when he first started playing for them his contributions saved them from the drop. He can play both in the middle of the park and on either flank and he still looks to be one of the main players from Burnley you need to nullify. I just thought his work rate this season had dropped off a bit but this may have been injury related. Given his age premier league experience there is a lot to like for 10 million. One of the concerns is if we lose Kouyate and with the general lack of height in the team we won't be able to take advantage of his set piece delivery or/and Eze's and Olise's.

Yep, we might miss the two goals he's scored in his four years with us. [I like Kouyate btw and think we should keep him, but using his height to get on the end of crosses ain't one of the reasons why. He reminds me of me: I'm 6'3 and play CB in an old mans' league, but I might as well be 5'5 for all the use I am with my noggin).

£10m for McNeil is a no brainer as he is clearly a very talented lad who when Burnley briefly turned to a more expansive approach after Dyche left stood out. But he's not leaving for £10m. Unless there's something funny going on then he'll cost north of £20m for a position we do not currently need to fill with any urgency.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

So just to confirm Doucoure & Downes will be confirmed this week. Talks ongoing with Aribo. We will then concentrate on RB & CB.

I agree that we need a new (better) striker, but we can't keep transferring in players without getting rid of equal numbers. It seems that we have a few players that we need to get off of the wage bill and free up squad numbers but nobody wants.

Sky Sports are reporting Southampton are in advanced talks to sign Aribo: `Southampton in Aribo talks A deal is close to being agreed and the fee is believed to be worth £10m including add-ons. It is understood the 25-year-old, who has a £10m release clause in his Gers contract, is open to the move to St Mary’s. The Nigeria international joined from Charlton in 2019 and is entering the final year of his Rangers contract. He scored nine goals, including one in the Europa League final, in 57 games last season and added 10 assists. ` 20:40 on: [Link]
