It seems we are much more closely aligned on this than on almost any previous subject.

If we can agree on this maybe we could offer ourselves as mediators? After all it must be a small miracle!

I never thought I’d agree with James O’ Brien either. His show has followed and commented on this brilliantly. I suspect there are several Tories worried about the issuing of visas to Russian oligarchs and criminals and the setup of London money laundering and getting hold of assets in Britain. New Labour weren’t much better mind you. If the west has to suffer financially to prove what it needs to them so be it.

Putin literally imprisons, poisons or kills anyone who could seriously oppose him. He's had the same done in our country on numerous occasions. He's all about enriching himself to the detriment of his people. This idea that people are going overboard at his attack of a democratic nation and that we should unchecked seek to bring him into the hold, is about as risible as it gets.

I agree with Rudi, above. We should seek to get Russian money out of our politics and country where it seeks to destabilise, influence and no doubt blackmail. We cannot afford to be in any way on the same page as a country carrying out something like this, and threatening the rest of the world, because it most certainly will not end in Ukraine.

The money whores will squeal like pigs if this situation was used to clean out those ill gotten gains. The politicians are far more comfortable with letting the poor suffer than with endangering the 'loadsa bloodmoney' that fuels the London wealth sector.

The unfortunate reality is that the poor would suffer more if they did....then again they are going to anyway.

I think we all agree with that but I absolutely hope that the Government actually do it.
There is suggestion that some high profile Ruskies have donated to the Tories - as UK Citizens I might add - and that they have lobbied the Foreign Office today to ensure that they don't get hit by sanctions.
Tough one that but if they also have Russian citizenship then they too should go.
Easy for Labour to call this out but not so easy when you are in power and having to deal with it.

Eastern Ukraine is ethnically Russian.

Let Putin keep it.

Seems the sporting world is seriously considering its options. UEFA are about to move the CL Final from St Petersburg . . . [Link]

F1 is also considering the race in Sochi in Sept with 3 current & former World Champions stating they doubt or won't race . . . [Link]

This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise.

Nice that you're okay with an army murdering innocent citizens of its democratic neighbour, on account that you're deemed they should just roll over due to your views on ethnicity. Nothing aggressive about this action, or essentially threatening to nuke anyone who gets involved? I'm sure it will stop there. Another delusional appeaser who can't see the wood for the trees.

Georgia and Crimea were pretty much a significant majority of Russian people.....East Ukraine is about fifty fifty if I remember correctly a situation created around Soviet history. This is an obvious problem for cohesion....but hey.

Most people don't know much about Ukraine or its history, nor know or care about vested interests. It's an easy job for the media to paint pictures that omit anything nuanced. They write the 'light and dark, good and evil' song and the listeners sing along.

I would say that it's more the people who support significant ethnic diversity who enable the fuel for these conflicts to exist....then they finger point.

It's a reality that there was significant support in East Ukraine, Georgia and Crimea for Russian intervention.

Instead of freezing assets of Oligarchs why not just confiscate them.

Not that it makes a huge difference but the Ukraine isn't a democracy.

Should the UK invade Australia, New Zealand and Canada then?
