We may have a chance to dig out the old chant, “You should have stayed at Palace” when we run rings around Chelsea in due course.

Except that won’t work if he’s not actually there!!

He can afford a ticket

Just imagine, before the game there's all this speculation of if he'll line up against us, then the team news comes out and we see he's not even on the bench again.. everyone cries of foul mistreatment and how he should've come back when suddenly up in the stand there he is donning the red and blue shirt cheering on the palace from his seat!

Thus taking his place in Palace immortality.

Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes)

Well he wanted to fight for his place at Chelsea

Assuming Kante and Jorginho are fixtures, there is one spot up for grabs. Looks like he has seen off Bakayoko and is ahead of Moses and Drinkwater. So just Barkley, Fabregas and Kovacic to go

If he was striker or central defender, he would have have less competition

This sounded like fun fan-fiction and then I remembered this is essentially what Sakho did when he was still on loan from Liverpool haha. I remember him cheering our win at Anfield that pretty much meant there was no way back for him, and he didn't seem to mind one bit. :-)

Looks like he is destined to be the forgotten man in Chelsea reserves. Gone from the World cup to not even getting a first team game.
Seems he hasn't a good agent.

Why is it always the agent's fault. It was RLC that said that he wanted to stay and fight for a place in the Chelsea team

Perhaps it was the agent's fault for not convincing RLC sufficiently that such a notion was utterly unrealistic to everyone except, seemingly, the player himself.

Just an idea, like.

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

Maybe it was Chelsea who didn't want to loan him out, accordingly there was nothing RLC could do about it.

If he had the option to go out on loan or stay and fight for a place in the Chelsea team, perhaps he felt that having just played for England in the World Cup and with a new manager at Chelsea he might be given a chance.

Well, I can’t see him (or his agent) putting up with a season in the reserves without a sniff of the first team other than in cup games. Outside interest is there - players can and do agitate for a move and surely Chelsea’s penny will eventually drop that getting a transfer fee for an in-demand player is preferable to hanging on to and winding down the contract of a player who simply isn’t going to feature. It’s simple economics apart from anything else.
