Just banter Wilf your not in a library...

Sorry but our gay supporters should have to endure those chants just like Wilf shouldn't.

Err...sorry but Wilf has to put up with idiots saying idiotic stuff because he's a public figure. We all have to put up with the negatives of freedom of speech in life.

Clubs are private companies and can look to ban immature wallies doing things like this. I would warn them first but anti social behaviour ultimately has a sanction. This does not mean that I accept the dangerous idea that 'words are violence'.

As for the gay chants, it's similar if a little different, I've previously laid out my position on that and continually having to state it gets a bit old.

Eh? What does that have to do with the time of day? So it's fine because he's a public figure? That's surely a corrallary of what you state here. And anyway plenty of black and gay people are verbally abused without being public figures. Dealing with the negatives of free speech does not quite capture the reality of the situation.

Old? Not really. Your position appears untenable which is why it is being probed. I say appears because ( in may have missed it to be fair) you've left yourself some wiggle room. Do you think the sanction for racial or homophobic abuse is only worth a warning?

do you think freedom of speech and expression should be absolute, Stirling? 'say exactly what you think and debate it out' kind of thing? if not, what should the restrictions be?

Hey sterling you should probably check wiki and read what it says on 'hate speach'

It's the 21st century London and we have freedom of speach but we also have laws against hate speach. Hate speach laws protect everyone especially minorities from those spreading hate.

To hear one of our fans saying. Wilf has to put up with racism due to freedom of speach is just plain wrong. And it's wrong in the laws eyes.

Freedom of speach is amazing but we also have hate speach laws to protect people. So no it shouldn't be wilfs problem that he has to put up. It's unacceptable.

Shame on anyone in 21st century London that can't yet understand that.

It's not fine but it's something you should accept as the reality of being a public figure. You can't close down negative views of you because you don't like them....that's a very dangerous path to go down.

'And anyway plenty of black and gay people are verbally abused without being public figures'.....yeah....so are ugly girls, so are conservatives in left wing environments, so are fat people, so are disabled people, so are low IQ people, so are educated people in certain environments as are uneducated people in other environments'.

Are you going to stop mean and harsh language are you?

Some people are not.....shall I repeat that...not more equal than others.

I have already stated and I'll state it again. If the club can identify a person in the ground who is continually shouting stupid abuse then they should warn that person. If they don't stop then they could ban them.....CP are a private business and that is their right.

However, we may not like someone's opinions, but words are not 'violence'. When it comes to free speech, we should follow the proven roads.....libel, incitement to violence, obscenity. I've had a word with many a student for inappropriate language...but I would never and won't accuse them of 'violence' because someone else is offended.

Outside of libel, incitement to violence, obscenity, I do not support legal action. You may, I don't.

Shame on you mate. I don't agree with your interpreatio0n of the 'hate speech' laws. They were brought in because of problems with Islamic preachers. People like you want to widen out and restrict others...that was not the intent. Katie Hopkins makes a good living commenting while these 'hate speech' laws exist so I think your interpretation is one that exists in your own head.

You can stick your shame where the sun don't shine.

Haven't you read my stuff on this thread? You really should if you are going to ask something like that because it's been answered lots of times....I've even done it again in my reply before this one.

Forgive me if I direct you to that one for what I feel about where freedom of speech should sit.

No problem, I've detailed it many times in the thread....and of course it's not just my approach but the approach of many, from liberals to conservatives.

I have no issue with different views about it...that's just apart of a healthy society.

Stirling,If some kids make monkey noises at a black kid in the playground, what should a teacher do?

Do nothing because its wrong to interfere with/censor free speech?

Try to educate the abusers as to why racism is stupid

If they persist, just let them carry on,or invoke sanctions against the abusers

(and please none of this diversionary guff about most teachers being left wing)
