Disappointing yes and not progress given my understanding is that the club interviewed him a few years ago before he went to Burnley and deemed he wasn't what palace were looking for. Surely going back on that decision now wouldn't look good it'd be a bit like meeting up with your ex girlfriend and trying to decide whether you should make another go of it! Personally I would rather the club take a gamble on someone like Ryan giggs than go for Dyche and I don't even like giggs and never thought I'd find myself suggesting we should go for him but he would be preferable to dyche!

Total lack of experience in the PL and we in our position cannot afford such a "Gamble". He was turned down for the Swansea job because of his inexperience and I think that Southampton have also formed the same opinion.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'New Manager Thoughts' by kenbarr I've been torn between who I would prefer out of Pellegrino and Dyche, siding with Pellegrino for the majority. Maybe it's because he's a foreign manager who worked wonders with Alaves but is it fair to say that Dyche has done the same with Burnley in what we perceive as a tougher league? Furthermore, they both seem to have the same tactical vision which is keeping it tight, pressing then countering. Surely this plus Dyche's experience of the Premier League would mean he should be the ideal choice for Palace?

I'm all for Dyche and anyone who thinks Pellagrino is progression needs to have a long hard look at football. Pellegrino is a poor mans pardew, got sacked, went to Argentina...didn't pull up any trees whilst there with two different clubs. Then finished mid table in la liga and got to a cup final. At least Pardew has got to two cup finals and lost. When we finished mid-table and got to a cup final, many on here were maoning. Now we want a man with less premier league experience and with a lesser win% record and we see that as progression. FDB I would hold in similar regard, did well with Ajax and was horrific at Inter. Team turned against him and struggled tactically when up against it. Dyche is right, ppl hold overseas managers in such high regard. Marco silver got hull relegated and look how people are talking about him. Didn't win away all year. You get Fat Sam or Pulis and they would have kept Hull up. All I'm saying is I feel that Dyche should be held on par if not greater than these other two. We need a good manager, not just a foreign fancy name.

Firstly this will probably be in the main thread next time you look and secondly Puel may have taken Southampton to 8th place but their 46 points was only six points more than Dyche's Burnley yet Southampton had a vastly greater player budget to work with. It would have been interesting to see where Southampton and Burnley would have ended up if each had the opposing manager in charge last year Firstly, it ain't yet Secondly, you miss my point about the stress Puel was under. Dyche had an easy time in terms of support from the board, Puel on the other hand knew that Southampton had very publibly stated quite early that his position would be reviewed at the end of the season. The stress this would put on anyone is immense, never mind being a Prem manager. So to answer you point, yes it would be interesting to see how they would have done if their roles were reversed, would Dyche have buckled under the pressure? Imponderables I know, but a straight comparison in the circumstances doesn't stand scrutiny.
Cynic or realist? It's a fine line! |

This is seriously worrying, with most clubs reporting back for pre-season preparation at the end of the month and we are still without a manager, no action in the transfer market, which despite what some think we desperately need as we have some serious big holes in the current first eleven and even more so in the squad. SP states he is looking for a long term manager, we have had 7 in the last seven years and this one when appointed will be number eight, so does such a manager exist?, surely results and league position will decide how long he stays, whatever we do need this sorted and quick now!

That information is out of date as the directors may not have paid themselves anything in the last financial year but SP now pays himself £650,000 pa Has he had a pay rise, you stated £600,000 yesterday!
