Sanctions are certainly bad for both Russian and Europe....the US still suffers but less so. This war was nuts from the start and I've always supported Orban's neutral stance on it....his people aren't going to suffer in the winter. The media has to take a lot of responsibility for how this war has been portrayed and the unrealistic and simplistic goody/baddy mindsets many have on it. Electing Biden was a disaster....and a predicted one. Edited by Stirlingsays (04 Sep 2022 10.16pm)

Edited by Stirlingsays (04 Sep 2022 10.16pm) The issue with the Media is actually so bloody scary. I remember at the height of the IRA bombing campaigns when Britsh people were being killed and maimed and the Government tried to impose a ban on the media reporting what Gerry Adams had to say. So the BBC used actors to read his words out. You could argue that they actually went out of their way to ensure that a man leading an organisation that was blowing up people on British streets got a hearing. And yet we hear nothing from the likes of Putin. Who has given plenty of speeches? Our media has literally gone from being willing to make sure even people who were blowing up kids on British streets were given a hearing to now. When a foreign war can only be reported based on what one side says. Where are the UK journalists trying to interview Putin? To get the Russian side of the story? To be really giving both sides of the story. There is actually a British journalist, a guy called Graham Phillips who has been reporting on events from the Donbass since 2014. And who is currently being sanctioned. Hitchens writes about it in the Mail. It is incredible to find out that our own Government will sanction a British citizen for the crime of reporting what it does not like...(about half way down)...

As for your support for forces reigned against the British state who killed our soldiers.....well, the sooner you deport yourself to Ireland the better....Not that a significant number of northern Irish would think much of you.

Did I say the BBC was wrong to do so? No. I have a personal view on the IRA and the likes of Adams, which is not a positive one to put it lightly, but my point was that the BBC still went out of its way to make sure they got a hearing. And if you believe in an obligation of the media to present fair and balanced reporting, then it is hard to disagree with what the BBC did. What I am questioning is when that stopped being important? Especially with regards to this current debacle? Edited by Matov (05 Sep 2022 5.22pm)

Matov is not an idiot stirling- he just didn"t realise that secret talks were ongoing, or doesn"t want to be privy to whats really going on behind the lines, hearing from the enemy first hand so to speak! I wont get drawn in to the Ireland argument, i"m happy with 30 years of peace- loving it that ex british soldiers on here can live great lives in some of the most nationalistic territory in Ireland, without fear from foe!Lets hope lizzy is as pragmatic as the other Lizzy on the subject, and not get drawn in to the erg and their cronies blinkered views on Ireland- putting 30 years of peace on the line!

Edited by Matov (05 Sep 2022 5.22pm) Apologies, it seemed you were saying the gov banned him from speaking-and his organisation blew up kids on the mainland, and the bbc went out of their way to get his message over- even though he might have been mentioning atrocities the british army were doing in his own country! But like I said- i"m happy with the democratic outcome as it sdtands-although its about time the parliament in NI got up and running, it will be good to see if liz can get on with Michelle! On your bbc censorship Ukraine point, cant you aim that at all broadcasters here to? Even sky, that left wing conduit to the masses? We have already shut down RT, which could give the other perspective on the war, did you agree with that?Did you speak up that it was undemocratic? Did it change your opinion on bungle and his ilk? Just curious.

Matov would be well aware that the IRA and Thatcher's government had some level of contact as this has been public knowledge for decades. It's also how these things work.

I am interested in the why around that. And yes, banning RT was an utter disgrace. Shocking censorship. Proof that the West is no longer any kind of bastion of free-speech.

Interesting chart from 'The Sun'. In the interests of fairness I must say that based on my own research of the situation inside Russia this does not quite tally up with what I have seen/read/listened to, albeit as an outsider with the general sense being that quite a lot of food items have increased significantly in price. But in terms of Western Media mood music, then a sign that perhaps the entire, and at times frankly ludicrous, pro-Ukranian slant is beginning to fade a little. Big protests in both Prague and Cologne today about energy prices and have seen claims that a people in Europe are finding companies starting to close down domestic accounts, forcing people to switch to an increasingly limited amount of suppliers. Now that is not a new thing, and we have witnessed similar here but to see the numbers being claimed, and we are not even into anything approaching a colder month, and a portent of things to come. Yes but that’s all your five a day rubbish. Mucky Ron’s and slime fried chicken are still decent value. Maybe they don’t want us to live to 136 years old. Realising they can’t afford it no doubt
