I wonder if her family will share your sentiments. What, that it’s safer to live in the UK if you want to be a rebel? I doubt it.

Correct but I’d add that the echo chambers created by social media have seen this now happen on a grander scale, lockdowns probably don’t help either. It’s exactly the same for a lot of nonsensical wokism and rise of people genuinely believing there is some virtue in identifying as communists. I don’t use any social media platforms but occasionally have a butchers at Twitter. It would appear you need to be some sort of incel and believe either in identifying as Antifa, Communist and ‘progressive’ or a far right conspiracy devotee in order to have an opinion. Of course, everyone who does not agree with you qualifies as the devil and a ducking idiot in either instance. Haha. Exactly right on all counts. I always used to see social media as a bit of fun, but largely opted out after seeing how it changes people and now get to see what a number its done on some. The comfort some appear to feel at becoming a more extreme version of what they already believed in (the jury is in... I was right all along!). They think they're Inspector Morse uncovering all of these hidden truths, whereas in reality they're saddos avoiding connecting with opposing views in a meaningful and good faith way. It's more like crack addicts really looking for that familiar fix from their one dimensional echo chamber; to hurl at their opposites who have suffered the same mental fate. Of course I'd say a good 80% of people aren't interested in any of it, primarily because they have a decent enough cross reference of interactions and people in their lives to counter the unreality of what online echo chambers offer. Twitter is especially bad, as it's ultra short form, zero context, hit and run. People with hundreds of thousands of followers become businesses not wishing to damage their brand, their views becoming less and less nuanced, as they spoon feed their fans what they want. 'Here comes the aeroplane'..

What, that it’s safer to live in the UK if you want to be a rebel? I doubt it. To be fair, I suspect UK police might have acted in the same way. You had a mob storming one of the primary political institutions with elected members of the main state body having to hide away from a rampaging crowd intent on breaking through secure doors. But it is still a terrible shame this lady died. What I cannot bear around this is all the hypocrisy. If this had been a BLM mob then the Right would be defending the cop whilst the Left would have been screaming blue murder. But it was the other way around and so the voices are reversed. Personally, I think there are huge questions to be asked around the wider security but lets all perhaps take a step back and look in the mirror and acknowledge that we all play this s***ty game which yesterday had real-world consequences. As I have said, I loathe the fact that people who have spent years trying to over-turn the results of elections be it Brexit or impeaching Trump are now somehow proclaiming themselves as the defenders of democracy but I have enough self-awareness to accept that I am part of the wider problem of systematic distrust and loathing that now exists between essentially the white population of the West. This is a civil war. And yesterday, it became very uncivil.

What's worse? Rioting over a football match or an election result?

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

And with history showing that he was robbed of victory in 2020? This story is not over yet.
