Uncontrolled diabetes is more dangerous due to negative effects of elevated blood sugars on the immune system. Type 2 is more difficult to control so maybe more at risk. This is generally controlled by diet and lifestyle in the early stages, then metaphormine as it progresses. Type 2 sufferers generally dont get a test meter issued so buying one of your own is recommended even after this is over. Hypoglycemia (a low normally type 1s get) can affect the immune system but through a different mechanism. I am impressed

I don't know what type he is but I know he gets really anxious over eating food at the right time so assume it's Type 2. Another friend who has both diabetes and leukaemia seems much more laid back, is out walking every day and making a video diary of his nearby, nearly deserted, beach. I suppose it depends on an individual's approach to life as much as anything else.

That lady on telly said some of these drugs may even be helping to limit the bug in your body. My methotrexate for my RA could be that type of drug as in the hydrochloroquine family.

Your leukaemia suffering friend must be a high risk as his immune system is compromised and my guess is that he is well aware of that but chooses to ignore it. He will have had a letter from his GP by now telling him that he is high risk. On the subject of diabetes it was originally mentioned that those with type 1 might be at higher risk but I think that cryrst is correct about those with type 2 whose blood sugars are well controlled either through diet and exercise or pills. I have type 2 despite not being a typical diabetic fatty and the letter that I received from my GP specifically didn't mention diabetes but something else that I suffer from

Just heard two baby boomer over 70 women. ‘What a load of fuss over nothing.’ ‘I feel like I’ve been robbed of 12 months. I can’t go on holiday, I can’t go anywhere.’ ‘Hopefully we’ll be on the bowling green soon.’ They want to try a bit longer than 12 months. And they’ve been protected from the virus. They won’t be arrested for going anywhere. But write off bowls and foreign travel for the over 70’s. It’s moments like people passing each other that they let these comments slip out without thinking.

Sounds like the government are going to relax social distancing at work where it is difficult or impossible to follow it. The elderly and vulnerable should take note and stay in because the virus is going to be transferred around quite a bit. Maybe there will be fewer serious cases but any who ignore the risks by choice can’t blame anyone.

That’s the spirit in which the original comment was intended. These figures still don’t stop criticism of the way the UK has handled the situation when dubious stats are quoted from other countries.
