May's announcement about increasing holding time for suspects is to go fro 14 days to 28 days is in fact a u turn. It was when she was home Secretary that she reduced it from 28 days to 14!

Yep, like most of the left he has no real answers to terrorism other than increasing Police numbers (when it took eight minutes to kill these murderers) and holding hands and singing 'imagine'.

It's amazing isn't it how all those countries around the globe affected by extremist terror who are not beholden to left-wing views have solved the problem yet we can't due to some latte-drinking techies reading The Guardian.

Hollande had the same fantasy tax dreams. Capital flight is precisely what happens when you raise taxation on the richest without there being sufficient cause for them to stay invested.

Your arrogance is truly astounding.

JP Morgan have already purchased a new HQ building in Dublin and will be moving staff there whatever tomorrow's result.

The way to differentiate the UK is to have high levels of skill (invest in education) and good public services (so people want to live here). This requires investment in the economy and in our public services. Not cuts. These things are much more valuable to businesses than a few % difference in CT.

Yeah, a few hundred banking staff.

They are keeping their feet in all camps.

I agree with you to a certain extent about investment but like most things the devil is in the detail and I doubt that we would agree much upon that.

Then you are rather easily astounded. Not a very useful attribute for a supposed economist.

This was after Labour MPs defied Blair's planned increase from 14 days (Shortly after 7/7)

The ones that were fully costed, acknowledged to result in higher GDP growth than the Tories by Oxford Economics (albeit keeping debt higher for longer) and would actually result in some much needed investment in infrastructure?

What economics qualifications do you have out of interest?

I have an economics degree and will be voting Tory

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

On a personal level yes, it is harder to leave. on a business level it is much more convenient to leave or move their HQ across the Irish Sea.

You claim to have a economics degree? I can't remember. Surely you can see it will be more beneficial for a business operating within the EU to move to Ireland if the UK are threatening to increase Corp Tax, Personal Tax, Minimum Wage, as well as not having the confirmation of Single Market Access.

I believe the biggest benefit to business will be access to skilled labour and being based in a country with high quality public services and infrastructure, which includes things like high speed broadband and 4G/5G available widely.

I used to live in Dublin and London is a far superior city to live in and will continue to be the place to live to be near the talent. Minimum wage in Ireland is €9.25 which is higher than it currently is here. But for the kind of jobs that could relocate to Dublin you're really talking about financial services which don't pay too many people minimum wage. Stuff like transport and education is pretty poor in Ireland.

You only have to look at countries across to world to see that access to skilled and well treated labour is more important than tax rates in developed economies. Sure corporations will try and dodge it, but this is mainly by having skeleton HQs in low tax jurisdictions and undertaking questionable profit shifting activities, which are very much under scrutiny from the OECD and being closed down.

Oh and I can send you a copy of my qualifications if it's at all important!

Office has capacity for over 1000. Loss of jobs still not good news.

A pro-austerity economist is certainly a very rare breed these days. We should have you stuffed and put on display.

Those on minimum wage are mostly low-skilled labour. So that won't have a huge impact on businesses moving. Agree that there is a huge difference in terms of city capacity compared to London and Dublin. But if a country potentially sees an increase in investment, they will do what is necessary to get them there.

Labour are planning minimum wage to be £10 an hour, Ireland is £8.11 an hour.

If we don't gain single market access with Corbyn in charge, it will be much more beneficial for financial businesses to set up Ireland offices as an example. That is why I believe the rates are low, to keep investment and add to it just in case the EU deny us the privilege.
