Those who continue to believe in this style of administration really do need to take a step back and start to see the wood for the forest they have become lost in. Loving your country is not restricted to people who think like you. Self declared "patriots" who want to exclude all those who don't think like them are a danger to their country, and not an asset. Recall Samuel Johnson's famous remark, "patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel"? It seems there are a lot of scoundrels these days in plain sight and not having to hide in refuges any longer. For the avoidance of doubt any comments in response to a previous post are directed to its ideas and not at any, or all, posters personally.

We all know that the political direction of both the major parties in the USA have swung a full circle over the years so trying to blame shift is just nonsensical posturing. Really don't agree with that. I was born in London but have always considered myself Welsh. I am sure there are many other people who think the same way. As O'Connell/Wellington said "being born in a stable does not make a man a horse.”

As Maine Eagle has been at pains to point out Lincoln wasn’t a Republican in the modern understanding of the word so Republican and Democrat are a bit tricky to define historically.
