The BoE basically had one job and they were incompetent. Their forecasting has been consistently wrong and they have failed to have any meaningful impact on inflation which os their role. If anyone thinks they have done a good job on inflation and made accurate forecasts I would be pleased to see where.
Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance. |

Those events would have been held at other venues around the city or country. However, I take the point as a general one and I'm not against infrastructure that makes sense. On HS2, I regard many of the criticisms as valid and I remain to be convinced otherwise. However, I don't put myself forward as informed on it.....the problem is that I have lived long enough to see the outcomes of so called experts and remember the arguments of those who supported them......they are never there when it goes tits up. Yes infrastructure is very important. The uk has failed constantly in the past to invest in any long standing stuff. Normally just fluffy vote winning giveaways. Let’s say HS2 costs 100 billion. I reckon 70% of that will come back indirectly with tax, tax and tax on wages, savings, spending etc etc. also Once built it won’t require any more hmg investment unless the railways are re nationalised but will still generate profits for hmg. It is creating employment by the 1000s which would possibly be social payments to some. Most other projects of hospitals , schools etc require ongoing investment so are open ended spending. Yes it’s money that could be given away or wasted on vanity or vote winning; but long term this will be the spine of a much more efficient and usable service. The links will eventually get installed but the core service needs concentrating on first. To do everything at once will cause it to fail. If labour had concentrated on a small area with the NHS computer link up then slowly dragged in other areas until it was one system it would probably be up and running now; but they went all in on the first hand and the bluff failed. That lesson must have been learned with HS2.

Pin the blame on successive governments with short-term vision. It didn’t help when nationalised infrastructure was off loaded for quick profit and snapped up by foreign investors. There is a template for 'how not to do things' and we've pioneered it for the world!
