The point is whether it was always consensual. Not sometimes or even most times but always. Whether enough evidence can be presented to clear the relatively high bar needed for a criminal conviction, especially given the time elapsed, is yet to be determined. The CPS could easily refuse to allow a prosecution. That though doesn’t mean Brand would succeed with a deformation suit. Which would leave us all to reach our own conclusions. Which will be as divided as they always are here. The apology was for his behaviour. Doesn’t mention what that was. It could be “ sorry for forcing myself on you” but just as easily it could be “sorry I shouted at you and acted like a dick” Ones interpretation is, atm, down to your views on Brand.

It's not lost on me that those that defended decades long Police inaction on mass rapes in this country now suddenly turn into 'rape crises' when allegations emerge against someone they moan about. About as transparent as glass.

Just had a chat with one of my Daughters who informed me that one of her best friends has told her that he took her virginity (forced) at school in Grays. He was as nice as pie for a few weeks then effectively raped her. But pulled the consent card out. Word got a round the school what he was like, as a few of the girls had the same experience, and he had to cast his net further a field as those at school said no when he asked them out. Her friend was in tears as it brought it all back to her. No she wont be reporting it as she doesn't think it will be proved and she doesn't want to put herself and her family though the ringer. It seems he has been like this since his teens. I'm sure I will get the usual this is hearsay s***e. But this is much more than no smoke without fire.

It is hearsay, but it also has the ring of truth, especially coming from a known and trusted source. All the claims have a ring of truth which I am prepared to be proved untrue but very much doubt will be. The usual suspects scrambling to find reasons to disbelieve what has been alleged is unsurprising but also disappointing. Brand is as clearly a duck as is Donald.

You can apologise for acting badly, but that does not imply criminal behaviour. Morality is not set in stone. It changes from one decade to the next. Sometimes from one year to the next. The written law is rigid in terms of what you can and can't do, but the reality of people's behaviour is far more complex. In Russell Brand's case, I feel that his attitudes and current political views have made him a target for the new puritanical identity politics zealots. A journalist has just pointed out that Youtube have not banned RB but just stopped him making money. So they are appalled by his alleged behaviour but not enough to de-platform him which at least would be honest. Same journalist also pointed at that a female Guardian journalist defended him during Sachsgate telling Andrew Sachs granddaughter to "get over it" same journalist is now leading the "light the torches, to the castle men (or women or whatever).... " Media hypocrisy all round.

BBC has 22 weather presenters. Okay some might say a waste of money but not one of the the biggest issues at the BBC and they'd be wrong. It actually highlights the management problem of the BBC. Each department appears to be a personal fiefdom of the person running it, not unique to the BBC. I remember this at the bank I worked at. You end up with duplication and overlapping of resources simply because the boss wants their own empire. The senior management at the bank were constantly fighting to cut back the duplication. The BBC has started to make progress they are trying to consolidate the massive duplication in the News department(s). I guess they are going for a model that ITV adopted decades ago e.g. ITN a central news agency for all of the ITV channels to use. Well clearly it's not just the news that requires this stream lining. BBC sport is another area On a Saturday afternoon I have heard different commentators on Radio 5 Live and then BBC Local radio for the same match and no doubt they both had their own backup staff. Then of course there is the abuse of taxis, and I am not just referring to Russel Brand. Many ex employees have gone on record to point out that staff will each call a taxi rather than share one and in the case of London not use public transport. The BBC is awash with money if it needs more to spend on programs it should look internally before asking the taxpayer.

They seem to have got rid of all the lunchtime news presenters that I liked and replaced them with a bunch from BBC World News, most of whom seem to be foreign so now I tend to watch something else at lunchtime whilst eating my sarnie

Kuessenberg this morning without her, but Victoria Derbyshire. And she's no pushover like Laura. All the politicians had nothing to offer as ever but at least they were made to wriggle. She was persistent and everybody had their say, not just a tory political broadcast.

No one in their right mind would argue that Brand is worse than organised criminal rape gangs. They might though argue that describing those gangs as pakistani is unhelpful and serves no one. Especially the victims. They might argue that both deserve attention, for entirely different reasons.
