They're also incredibly inexperienced to be partnered together - I think it has to be either/or out of those two at this stage. Rice has had a poor tournament so far, but has been one of the best midfielders in the Prem for a good few years, as well as impressing for England - he needs the right partner, but he's absolutely earnt the right to be a nailed on starter IMO. Do they not play against the best sides in the world week in week out in the prem?

Fair play Georgia, they were incredible tonight. Does this mean we play Slovakia now as opposed to the Dutch? I Stalin aside, I’ve always liked the Georgians
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

disagree, Gordons no LWB. the lack of a leftsided anything is a massive hole in the squad, and restricts what you can do. you've put him there as there are no other options - and thats telling. you may get away with a 433 or 442 with that squad, but GS seems so stuck in his ways, were not going to see anything different.
But anyway Slovakia next then which will be the same again .They will sit deep and hope for a break ,we will struggle to break them down and Southgate will need a hardhat . If we don't get an early goal it will be another long night but we should still struggle on Quarter final will then be against Italy or Switzerland teams that will have a go so we should see the real England then

fair play to georgia! Annoyingly I think the Dutch would of been a lot more wide open than Slovakia. Can see them just sitting back like Slovenia & Serbia, Iceland and we will really struggle.

We've seen Wharton and Mainoo step straight into struggling prem teams and stand out against seriously experienced campaigners. Mainoo making Casimerio and co look terrible. Wharton helping Will Hughes to look like a top player. My other irk is the level, an average prem game is against a higher calibre of player than a lo of these international matches.

If they are regular starters in the premiership, especially in a side with good form who have that good form partly down to that player, they should be like ducks to water in the national team. Commentators repeatedly say otherwise, but I think that is self praising tosh as they have caps. Thus, Wharton to pair Rice. Dream midfeild.

Then, Wharton/Mainoo or even bringing Bellingham back deeper would/will be far better.
This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise. |
