[quote=bright&wright;3817038] Absolute joke of an amount. Freedman couldn't negotiate a contract or a sale if it saved his life. Spent all summer waiting on Wilf when we all knew he was going to go. But Lerma had a goof game on Saturday so we'll milk that until deadline day when we spend the day making cr@p offers for mediocre players. Oh well. At least we've got that shiny new Main Stand. Oh wait...

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

Absolutely gutted if he goes , more annoyed with palace over his contract , we have no real ambition at this club to improve , I bet we won’t see any new transfers with that money .. it’s like 1 step forward 6 steps back supporting us!!

I heard earier that Brighton have taken more than £300 million in transfer fees in the last 12 months. Originally posted by Canterbury Palace
I regret bringing Pat into it. It's not her fault that I'm angry with our transfer policy. Fair point about Alexis but ultimately when you see Brighton selling player and player for huge amounts and then we've lost Zaha for free, Olise for half of his worth and Eze is into the final two years of his deal so will likely depart next summer for a pittance as well, it is just very annoying. Especially when there seems to be very little in the way of incomings.

Politely disagree with that. As Midlands Eagle said if we didn't agree to the release clause at the time of signing then another PL club would have done. The weeds don't always get away with release clause, look at the relatively low value that Alexis went for to Liverpool, that was almost certainly a release clause. It's just not had the publicity that the Olise contract has had. By the way - nowt wrong with Pat Butcher! Mac Alister contract was running out which would have meant he was able to leave on a free this summer, they got him to re-sign just before the world cup and put in the release clause then. I suppose with the theory that getting something rather then nothing was not a bad idea and for him knowing that the cheap realease clause wouldn't put anyone off and to be fair probably a bit of loyalty. It's easy to negotiate from your armchair having no details, no skin in the game and no knowledge whatsoever of how these deals actually get done. None of us were in the room when they signed the contracts. I'm sure (guessing) just about everyone around at the time of signing MO from Reading would have said its a huge win if Palace made $27M profit in 2 years from the deal they crafted. It's a shame we can't keep him if the rumours are true but saying Dougie and team negotiated a bad deal just isn't true. There are very few businesses around (yes we are a business) that wouldn't take this profit.
