All Managers make bad signings always assuming it was them that signed them
We have had a few who seemed great on the face of it - most recently Benteke, Sakho and Myer
Total outlay £60m to buy and an average of £300k/week between them in wages.
Eddie Howe for me.
He is young, positive and wants to move onwards and upwards.

Nope - this is exactly how you spell je na see swa!.

I want Rafa, but I will take Mourinho.

Bruce is another one, who likes to ditch clubs for greener pastures.

He walked out of Bournemouth after 2 years - after rejecting a lot of other offers - and went to burnley, had a torrid time (on and off pitch) then went back To Burnley and stayed for 8 years !(thanks wiki )
If you take Burnley out of this equation, as one position in isolation shouldn't be used as 'the norm'.

So he's had one poorly informed jump ship to Burnley(in which there could have been extenuating circumstances), so I'm Prepared to ignore ...for now... and one where he 'Quit' - after 8 years ! I think to use that to describe him as a quitter is remarkable.

In no sense is Eddie Howe a quitter.

I do recall he played it somewhat fast and loose when he left Bournemouth for Burnley. He was offered the Palace job and the Charlton job and was reported close to accepting either of those, and it was a surprise he turned those down and went to Burnley.

At the end of the day the only question that matters is is Howe a better man for the job than Hodgson and in my opinion the answer is no. I’d rather we kept Hodgson.

I think that one has to take into account the trajectory of both of those managers, and the trajectory of the club, and what the next 3-years are going to look like. Either way Hodgson isn't going to be around for much longer and we need to be looking at his successor. If people are averse to unproven managers at Prem level then we're still going to be talking about the same potential replacements in 1-2-year's time.

Very good post.

Howe or Dyche have a lot to offer in my view!

But whoever it is we need to be building for the medium term and establishing a style of play and identity. We have to change the they way we approach games and that means a mindset that we go out to cause teams problems - not simply how can we stop the opposition from playing.

The argument that we should keep Roy because there is no obvious better replacement is totally bewildering.

Agreed
I have a slight preference for Howe as I think he has the better credentials when it comes to working with younger players and a more attractive playing style. If my memory serves me right, the Burnley side that stuffed us at SP last month actually had an older average age than our Dad's Army and that's saying something. Not sure what Dyche's record with younger players is like. No doubt someone will shoot me down.

Why change?

Vastly experienced manager who has by his side a vastly experienced assistant with both highly respected in the world of football.
A manager who has delivered on his objective of ensuring our stay in the rarefied atmosphere of the PL season after season on a relative pittance.

I accept the style of football has been less than scintillating but certainly pragmatic in the circumstances given the age of the squad.
