The Downing St declaration means it's up to the people in NI. This generation will need to die before any referendum. Nobody wants Northern Ireland anyway. British and Irish people both claim to love the place, sing songs about the place but it's a black hole for money. Regardless of what side you're on (I'm on neither). The main thing is peace there. Edited by corkery (04 Feb 2021 7.25pm) That's funny and little known. I have been there many times (did little more than drink heavily) and kept well away from sectarian pish. However, take a trip across the border and the Irish - no fools - are aware that it is a tinder box and wouldn't touch the place with a mile long pole. They may sing songs about the 6 counties, but would not actually want to rule them. Take a trip across the Irish Sea and, if you take out West Scottish Rangers supporters and the hard line Tory right, there is a sizeable chunk of the British population who would happily see the whole island toed into the mid Atlantic.

Mary Lou Mcdonald was on form today, she said the D.U.P wanted brexit, signed up to it, now the real;ity of it has hit they have to take the consequences, true enough, dont get what you shouted for, then try and change it when you have it. By way of balance, she also came clean that the EU f****d up. Which it did.

Maybe they should think of a third option, an independent NI. I worked for DuPont in the 1980's and they had a plant in Maydown. A subsidiary was Conoco and I also worked in Aberdeen. At the time there was more nationalism in the North than in NE Scotland. You might want to read your Irish history on that. NI had self rule for decades leading yup top (and causing) the Troubles. The protestant majority misruled to such an extent that Britain ultimately gave up and sent in the troops. Nothing has changed to suggest it would be any different if we tried that again. Just look at the DUP today.

The E.U did a major fcuk up- they might have been taking lessons from the CONservatives ever since this corona virus began, at least they admitted the mistake and did a u turn in a few hours, unlike trying to dazzle the electorate with "world beating" nonsense, hanging it out with lies, then folding when the truth is out and media pressure makes them capitulate!

‘Speaking to lawmakers on Tuesday, Gove said the part of the Brexit deal covering Northern Ireland wasn’t working, and called for a reset in the EU’s relationship with Britain.‘ So now we want what took 4 years to devise and agree to be amended, to be more like what went before? i.e the common market. Ridiculous. This is starting to turn into a s*** show. What exactly is the incentive for the EU to renegotiate? Because from what I can read it’s only the UK that is really getting impacted by any of this. It’s just as well we’re all locked down because if the music industry was functioning there would be hell to pay. Essentially, musicians can’t tour Europe due to the agreement and particulars re. Visas. No gigs. No festivals. No income. That’s another massive cock up to add to the e-commerce export situation. JD just announced they would be creating a 1000 staffed distribution centre in Europe to get around the problem of exporting. Big companies will be fine, albeit taking money and jobs away from the UK and over to the EU - SMEs are screwed. Edited by SW19 CPFC (10 Feb 2021 11.12pm)

It's funny how with all of these oversights, it's always the little guy that just so happens to be the one paying the price. Those at the helm are inept, but clearly not when it comes down to their own and their pals self interest.

I'll be popping round to your gaff to switch off the gas next Tuesday. I am sure that's fine with you.

The problems with the new trade rules are also impacting the ROI it will be interesting to see if the EU is happy to allow one of it's members to suffer just to stick it to the Brits. As for the Irish being an EU member up until has been a good thing. However from this year onward Ireland is likely to become a net contributor in taxes to the EU, this and the recent issues over the vaccine and trade lets see how much they love the EU going forwards. Oh I forgot the issue of fishing quotas as well, the Irish are now having the same problems as we did they think the EU is taking all their fish unfairly. Edited by Badger11 (11 Feb 2021 9.56am)
