I'll try again shall I? This fella's business - its profitability as a going concern, it's functioning - relies 100% on foreign workers. If they go so will his business. He can't make it any clearer. "Guy Poskitt, chairman of the NFU’s national horticulture and potatoes board, farms near Goole in the East Riding of Yorkshire and employs some 180 eastern Europeans out of a workforce of 270 to 280. He says the British workers he has are good but he can’t find enough and describes the eastern Europeans as “fundamental to our business. If we are unable to employ them, we would be in a very dark place indeed. I do not see how we would be able to supply the supermarkets and the shops, the hotels and the restaurants with what they need. We would all be in a very serious position.”
The 'logic' of this still escapes me. He might as well say he relies 100% on British workers.

Regarding our Sweden discussions, I see that they have just reintroduced conscription. Is this a new 'progressive' policy? Can we expect it to be deployed here? Perhaps the HOL progressives can advise.

Sweden is, probably correctly, concerned about an emboldened Russia flexing their muscles, in part thanks to a supine US administration that shows no interest in supporting it's NATO commitments, and with a President who seems very chummy with the Russian dictator (and let's not beat around the bush- he is a dictator). Worrying that Russia is seen as such a threat that countries like Sweden are forced to take these types of measures.

Yes, but won't the soldiers have to set up some sort of communal workshop to discuss every order before voting whether to carry it out or not? Edited by hedgehog50 (02 Mar 2017 1.57pm)

Asking you to back up assertions isn't trying to be clever, it's trying to move debate forwards. So your post about 'regressives' was moving the debate forward eh? I'll let others decide that. As for debating immigrant crime. No point. No it's not always the immigrants fault and all of the factors I have listed above do have an effect for sure, but the whole issue begins when we allow people to come here or Sweden and begin their new lives with an immediate disadvantage, whereby they occupy the lowest levels of society, many having little desire to be absorbed into the existing one. That said, the average immigrant is just an opportunist. He/she wants a better life. He/she is not to blame for a system that encourages people to migrate. He/she can be just as easily be a victim of that system. These people don't deserve to be made pariahs, they are just people doing what people do. The trouble is that their plight impacts on my plight and yours and our kids and as I have said many times, my priority is to them first. Some bloke from Poland or Nigeria is way down my list of priorities, it's that simple. Now this subject is getting very boring. Neither of us will alter out opinions so I'm done.
