We are paying top dollar for a player who is still young, proven in the PL and who suits our style of play, and who will be supported by Zaha and Townsend (resigning myself to losing Bolasie) and through the middle by Cabaye. Its logical Mr Spock!

I think it is just a matter of when not if this will happen. Great days to be a Palace fan, the standard of signings we have always dreamed of. I think the story behind this is we have needed a top striker for a few seasons and although we have got Wickham we have been looking abroad, Silimi, Batshuayi, Babacar, Zaza etc etc in the hope of finding the next cheap foreign player who will be a hit in the premier. However, the prices quoted for these players have been around 20-30 mill and there is the risk these guys are big money flops who arent up to the grade when you put them in the lions den of the premier league. For the same price we can get a 25 year old (so a good 5-7 years left in him at least) for this price, early in the summer (I think prices will rise as the summer goes on with the new tv money and clubs compete for the same players), who suits our style and with a good pedigree is a very sound business indeed. happy days Edited by Mwncisee (05 Jul 2016 6.52am)

our style is perfect for Benteke, Liverpool are so gonna regret getting rid. you have to pay top doller for a 20 goal a season man.

Excellent post But obviously a gamble, these things are. He could get injured, our wide men mght not jell with him, etc etc, But with Wickham and Benteke we should have a season's worth of play from two powerful strong tall target men strikers who should be able to boss the box with a decent share of knock downs etc. Ironically we still need a Gayle type of player, fox in the box, who can feed of these to convert into goals. Maybe the next signing will be an Ilicic type of playmaker/second striker?

Odds have gone from 1/12 to 1/3 if the betting odds mean anything.

However, agree all your other points. Please please please don't let him get injured in the first week... Edited by Mwncisee (05 Jul 2016 6.52am)

We don't need another 'poacher', what we need is another option at No.10 who can arrive late in the box and dictate play from deeper.
Employee of the month is a good example of how someone can be both a winner and a loser at the same time. |

Can see us buying another striker as well, even if we land Benteke, perhaps a Gayle type player to give us another option.
