It will take adebayor about 6 weeks to get match fit he hasn't played since May IF SP spends 77k on adebayor he needs his brain tested personally think it's a massive gamble would be definitely be throwing money down the drain

6 weeks? Can i ask what that's based on? He's only got to have a jog around for 90minutes a week.. I think you're putting these players on a pedestal.. it's not difficult to become 'match fit' at all.. It's their career to stay fit.. I keep fit with a full time job, it's not tough.. what makes the difference is the talent, instinct and knowledge of such a player.. to which he appears to have plenty imo..

There is a huge difference to a personal fitness regime and playing 90 minutes a week, longer if mid week matches in the Prem. In fact I doubt whether he is anywhere near this level, simply to avoid injury as then he can't join any club. If we are really going to spend £77,000 a week then surely we want a striker who can play near to 90 mins ? No chance with this guy.

If you honestly believe it is easy to get to a level of fitness that can match a Premier League player for 90 minutes, you are very deluded indeed!

Without a pre-season he has no chance of being match-fit within the first month. Training and a match do not even comprehend.

The fact that he is "In the mix" is a tad worrying !
I'll leave it at that.

If we are gonna spend 70k a week on a striker.... Get Defoe,Sunderland want to him off their books...and he can actually score.

I totally agree, i didn't mean to compare my own personal fitness with that to a premier league professional.. i meant to point out that i find the time to keep myself in good shape in limited time.. With 77k a week, nothing else on the cards to do, plus a fan base screaming you on each week, all with a team of professionals guiding you through fitness and nutritional requirements -i just dont think it'll take as long as some are anticipating..

Not entirely sure that Sunderland wish to sell him given his recent form.

£77k a week?! No chance of this happening then, is there?

I think it does take several weeks at least. look at how Chamahk still does not look full up to pace despite several weeks of cameo appearances and look at Wickham at the start of the season, was 4 to 5 games until he looked to be a cohesive part of the team. Wickham had played regularly last season. Think I saw somewhere that Adebayor has played a grand total of 14 minutes since November 2014!

erm, based on the many many clearly unfit players that we've had to watch for decades as they try and get their match fitness after months spent not playing. You're right in that it's not difficult to get match fit, what you're wrong about is the amount of time it takes to get the sharpness, endurance, speed, touch and vision back AND in sync with each other.

Yeh fair enough.. i see all your points that it takes X amount of time and am prepared to say i am wrong on the matter.. but why does it take so long? What do you suppose it is that delays the process? Training days not vigorous enough?

I have wondered the same, and actually earlier in this thread when I brought up the issue i did try to find answers on the good old tinternet but to no avail.

Only input/experience I can give is from when I used to play Sunday League. Match fitness for that is the 4 to 5 games into the season when match fitness means a) I can be arsed to get out of bed b) I can play (sort of) with a hangover

I remain uneasy re: taking on Adebayor. He had better be worth every penny of the speculated £77k per week - I wouldn't want to think that the club was selling out to players who only wore the Palace shirt for wages above anything else. The club remains in a healthy position bound primarily by team; board & supporter spirit that more senior clubs would deal well to learn from.

For me, I'd be happy to bring in a blend of players whose skill level may just fall something underneath Premiership standard on a consistent basis but who show both flare, hunger and loyalty to raise their game that would be nurtured well by Pardew e.g. Jordan Rhodes and Leigh Griffiths are by now surely worth a place within a mid - to lower Prem team.
