What if those 5-7 extra goals win us the game 2-1 or 3-2 or even an equaliser and gain us extra 10-12 points? I would say that is momey well spent. As I say, this is the unknown factor- Austin's 18 last season weren't able to keep QPR up and we have no idea how important (or not) those 5-7 goals might be. Also, I'm not overly convinced that Austin is as much of a provider or a handful as Murray so you need to factor that in as well- that's why it's so difficult to know if it's money well spent or not At it's simplest, it's money well spent just to deny him to the other 19 PL teams.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Charlie Austin (rumour)' by james03 He's not worth £15m in my opinion. I rate Rhodes higher personally and he's cheaper comparing both I feel Austin is the lesser striker.

Austin is overrated imo..What can he offer us that Muzza cant do ? 18 goals?
Glenn Murray 866 Prem minutes played Charlie Austin 3069 Prem minutes played
Charlie Austin actually scored 18 goals last season. Murray didn't even if you add in his games at Reading.
I agree. I think, given a full season Murray will get 15-20 BUT Austin would probably get you 20-25. He got 18 in a poor side last season. We Have Cabaye, Puncheon, Zaha and Bolasie providing and the wingers are only going to improve in their final delivery. The question is- would an extra 5-7 goals justify a spend of £15m? If we could predict what that would mean in terms of league position now then you'd have an answer but as we can't I think the only reason you would shell out that kind of cash is to stop the likes of West Ham, Stoke, Swansea or Southampton buying him- they are the teams we need to be finishing above of we want to finish in the top 8 and he will get you goals

Austin is proven in the EPL, Rhodes is not..... I think when you actually watch Rhodes it's obvious who is more effective. No one had to tell me that Murray would score in the Premiership if he were given the chances or Gayle. It's about the ability to judge a player.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Charlie Austin (rumour)' by james03 People forget that Murrays time at Reading was to get his match fitness back after his cruciate operation. Some of the things being said about him now are the same things that were said about him when he came to us from Brighton e.g 'yes he scored a lot of goals but that was in division one, he wont be able to do it in the championship' Boy was that wrong!

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Charlie Austin (rumour)' by james03 Don't know if anyone heard it but there was an extremely interesting and quite insightful interview with the agent, Paul Smith, on Talksport yesterday evening. Among other things, and among many transfers he discussed, he said Austin was a press myth. The reality is that there is very little interest in him and the only firm expression of interest has come from Norwich. The noise was entirely down to the media wanting something to write about and possibly his agent and the selling club trying to drum up interest. He hinted that Austin was a second tier player with a past injury problem and the reality of any transfer was nothing like what we're reading in the press.

He scored 18 goals & got relegated and got into the england squad, if we could chuck campbell& mariappa into the mix as reported and pay 6m that would be a good deal for us. But to pay North of 12m up front would be a huge risk.
