Fair point about injuries. It isn't really going to get any better unless we possibly lighten training methods and/or get younger players who might recuperate quicker. Our injury list seems to hover around 8 absentees permanently, whereas the majority of PL teams rarely get to this number. It doesn't help that we have three players that are injury prone, Wickham, Sakho and Tompkins.

On my word, did he really say this .... According to The Athletic journalist Matt Woosnam, Hodgson was asked about the decision not to bring on Mateta and said: “Benteke was doing an excellent job & plays a role for us defensively, especially from (set pieces) I didn’t see what JP could do to make a difference in us seeing the game through as we did” Strikers are there to predominately score goals, any defensive qualities are purely secondary issues. If this doesn't illustrate the need for a new manager, I don't think anything will.

Hear, hear Doom. Considering the limited resources at his disposal, Roy is doing pretty well to keep us hanging on in there - even if the football is not pretty. Agreed.

Rudi I sense you are saying this at the moment because you can’t go and see live football. Everything is in a rut currently, but as soon as we get out of the current lockdown the landscape will change. Don’t get me wrong I think Roy should jack it in at the end of the season, whether he will remains to be seen. No I’m going to make a judgement call based on what’s done in the transfer window or once we’re safe, whether that be a new manager as well as additions. I am not interested in going to watch anti-football to this extent any more. It’s actually a bit easier at home because it hasn’t cost you as much time, money or emotion. We are not the top 6 where you lose your season ticket for years if you don’t renew. You just might lose your 10% discount if you don’t renew early. It’s not that I want to stay away. There’s just no point watching this. It isn’t watchable.

It's not the most inspiring thing to hear of course, but then he may concealing the truth (in part at least) to protect the player's confidence. I'm not sure the club would have been well served by Hodgson saying: 'Mateta has done nothing in his brief Palace career so far to suggest he can hold the ball up well, or run the channels, which is what we needed to try and get past the pressing game Fulham were using. He looks handy in the box, but has a lot to learn outside of it. And he's crap when defending our corners, which matters. All in all, when I added it up I felt Benteke was the better horse for this course. Or donkey.'

As soon as they go on sale they'll get snapped up so I'm sure Parrish will be bothered, not!. You do realise we aren’t a massive club, we don’t sell out every match, and times and desire by fans to attend isn’t going to return to how it was for quite a while. The question really is does the £550-£650 matter more than the tv and other revenue. I’d guess it doesn’t. Well that’s fine, in the short term. I’ve endured it for quite a while now, but now’s the time to improve it a little. I’m not expecting us to be pushing for Europe or sexy football or any of that rubbish. I just cannot watch us at home prepared to not attack or even have a pattern of play going forward. And if we’re so good at defending, why are we a shambles defending corners?

This is why I thought Mateta didn’t get picked, but makes me wonder why Batshuayi was loaned in a 2nd time. Batshuayi was good in a team with RLC as well as Zaha. It was pretty obvious he wasn’t much use in the middle third or with nobody close enough to him. But he was available and cheaper, which is the first requirement before if he fits the football needs. However, I think there’s some truth in the defending first requirements of all Roy’s players. Always has been.

I can see fan protests and then smaller attendances. We already had a training ground banner and 400 pages of Roy out: that's probably representative of a large body of fans. Several thousand at a guess. Most fans won't Boycott but some will, Covid may also worry some, as may worse finances from the fallout from Covid.

There also isn’t thousands locked out the way we are. But tv money is worth vastly more. I thought this season might be the season I renewed and paid but didn’t attend all matches but Covid changed that. Unless things change I can’t imagine looking forward to any of them.
