Had a fright this morning. Opened HOL on mobile and on the front page there's a big picture of Pardew. I didn't see the headline at first, just him. Being relieved it's a season review is an understatement.

Phew.

As I recall, Sherwood assumed that, as he was being called for interview, he was the chosen target and that he'd either be told you've got the job or you haven't (the head hunter style, if you like, which I suspect is what they're used to). When he was told thanks for coming, we've got other candidates to see, you'll be told the outcome in due course (as if we were interviewing for the next Office Manager) he told us to stick the job up our arse.

Rightly or wrongly, I don't think that these people are used to the selection process that we seem to be wedded to. They expect their record, etc. to be well known to a prospective employing club and, if at the interview an agreement can be reached on the details, they'll be offered the job. They're not used to being told there'll be a letter in the post in due course.

We either do what Watford did and choose a target, go for it, and if all the ducks line up, make an appointment. Or we do what we're doing, which is painstakingly trawl though a sizeable short-list, carry out numerous interviews, keep candidates waiting whilst we ruminate and accept that, in the meantime, some of the targets will go elsewhere or blow us out.

Money still coming in on Pellegrino. Now slight favourite for Palace job. A couple of bookies a bit slow and have de Boer slight fav.

That was 7 years ago, you'd have thought with similar amount of pre-seasons to gain experience, that we wouldn't be fckin about again. It's worth remembering, that a manager will want to gauge the squad, and have time to train his ideas into the squad, and then add to it , all this takes time, which as each week goes by, we are running out of.

The start of the seasons has been kind to us fixture wise, and we need to hit the ground running, my worry is that we have learnt nothing from the past and will just meander into another season, without the preparation we need.
