The modern world? HS2 ignores it. Where, for over 100 billions, are the connections to airports and Europe? It doesn't even connect up most of England. Do we actually need this in our connected world, working practices have changed, rail travel is decreasing. An upgrade of the network I read, costing 127 millions, not billions, would provide just as much benefit and the rest of the system could then have money put into it. The Austin Allegro had more benefits than this.

Why HS2 won out I have no idea, you and I just have to hope that they are ultimately correct. However, it wouldn't surprise me if they aren't.
