Of course we will see a blame game. I suspect(but of course can not prove it that any deficit however big will be at least in part arise from what we have seen a lot in recent years, kick the can down the road and worry about it later.

Apology accepted

Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance.

The OBR will bear out the shortfall I think, the public did not appreciate Hunt's NI give-away they smelt a rat and it contributed to the rout of the tories.

So the incoming chancellor should reverse the cut and restore financial competence I agree.

But she boxes herself in with a promise to not increase any taxes, in which case she cannot do so, thus lumbering the country with the failed Hunt give-away they voted against.

And the people who can ill afford it end up paying for it, are pensioners and low earning families.

I saw her coming, when I saw she had a banking background.

A dunce.

I am sure you appreciate the irony of you calling anyone else a dunce

It will impact me. As it should. I anticipate my income as a retired person to decrease quite significantly in the coming years.

It won’t impact my standard of living, which is modest and affordable. It will though impact the inheritance I will leave behind me.

Better that than tax the young or needy.

What a fiver a week will impact your kids.
I will start a go fund me page for them, I would hate to see them suffer !

It should always have been means tested really so that the people who didn't need it, didn't get it.
However, yesterdays news means that a normal pensioner with nothing more than their state pension to live on won't get it and yet those who get the pension and benefits, will get it - unless I have read it incorrectly?

The BBC are reporting that the OBR published a letter after Reeve's speech confirming that she was right.
If that is the case then two things -
They are obviously s*** at their jobs because they should have known and they have acted politically when they are meant to be apolitical.
To my mind that means that they are not fit for purpose.

Give the vote to 12 year olds ... and then tax their pocket money!

What a bizarre post. Read the OBR letter. They were legally obliged to accept what they were told by ministers.

Not bizarre at all.
They say they knew nothing about this until last week but published the letter yesterday.
Their letter also says that they will carry out a review as something went wrong in March.
They appear to blame the Treasury but the Treasury is made up of supposedly apolitical employees - forgive my cynicism!

My take it's all politics by both parties.

Tories
Sunak held the election early knowing that there were a bunch of big decisions coming up that would impact the economy. If he had gone in November all those decisions would be out in the open and he would get pelters from Labour.

Going early meant he dumped the problem onto Labour.

Labour
They knew exactly what the Tories were up to and chose to turn a blind eye and not inform the voters that Labour's spending plans would be unrealistic.

It suits Labour to dump the problem back onto the Tories however they did not have to agree to the public sector pay rises. So much but not all of the so called black hole is actually a political decision by Labour.

As for the other stuff that Labour has since found again this is people playing politics. If government departments have been hiding the "truth" from the previous government then people should be sacked.

The winter fuel issue from yesterday is going to really backfire on Labour.
I have just seen a clip of Starmer hand wringing about the state of pensioners and their lack of money, having to choose whether to turn the heat on in winter or buy stuff they need - from how long ago I can't say.
It makes it even worse and as some people have said, it is absolutely disgusting!
I get my pension in December and don't need the fuel allowance but those that do should get it and many of them won't.
If the opposition have anything about them, then this should be something that is reversed.
Interesting that she did it knowing there would be no more PMQ's for a few weeks.
She really is a piece of work!
