It's 2017 ffs so is it beyond the intelligence of the Sussex Police to use their powers to order Brighton to delay the kick-off by 30 mins while they sort out the supporters they kettled by checking the tickets and profiles of the genuine peaceful supporters and allowing them into the ground and then dealing with the hooligans. If they had done that then the hooligans would have been isolated, named and possibly charged. At least then Palace could have banned them from Selhurst Park and also ensure they never get tickets for away games. Or is that too simple. Indeed. Obviously the club needs to deal with those responsible but how can it do that if the police are more interested in kettling genuine fans than arresting hooligans? Not sure how this argument stacks up. It's like saying your going to leave your front door wide open to be more accommodating and then being surprised when you get burgled. Perhaps some you have contacted the nasty eliminat or the HF and said "look chaps, Brighton have tried to make their ground really accommodating by not investing in those ghastly iron gates at there entrances and they won't be paying of scary police officers in the stadium either because they will ruin everyone's match day experience. s they've been so nice and considerated I'd really like it if you'd behave yourself'. I hope there are heavy punishments for the offenders, but prevention is better than cure and loads of people have had there night ruined because simple steps weren't taken.

Again making excuses for the yobs. It's not making excuses for yobs. In an ideal world, there would be no need for police or stewards but we aren't living in an ideal world. As such, we expect the police and BHA to do their jobs properly If you went to the pubs that the police advised you to and then went with the police escort to the ground, you arrived at the ground after kick-off. How can that be correct? If the police had got fans to the ground on time, there would have been time to search fans and check for tickets at the station before getting near the ground.
It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses. |

From what I've read, when the fans arrived late because of the police just as the game was about to kick off all the turnstiles were closed. Strange. Someone opened a fire door and I'm assuming about 25ish at the front took the opportunity to rush in. Were they ticketless? They weren't gonna stop to show their tickets now were they?

In theory anyone could have got to the door without a ticket. They weren't checked at any point (other than wanting to go into the pub) but that wasn't by the police or any club staff.

A friend who works there told me that as the main group of Palace supporters were being escorted round there were several flash points between the escorted group and Brighton, pretty much as Michaela described. While this was happening the group who rushed the turnstiles/emergency exit broke off so arrived without an escort, by the time the time the escorted group made it round the gates were already shut.

Ask yourself this mate..... You NEVER have to show a ticket until entry, so how would the way anything was handled have affected people without tickets being in the area? Can people not walk there dog past selhurst on a match day?

Amex is in the middle of nowhere, so easy to put checkpoints on the paths in and only let fans with tickets through. Selhurst is in the middle of housing so anyone could walk up, even walking their dog, but no one can drive up as the roads are closed off, which is what they could have done at Brighton.

And..... if it's in the middle of nowhere, exactly why would anyone without a ticket need to be anywhere near It? They wouldn't. It's that simple mate.
